You live in a large country and it sounds like geographically your adult children live far away from you. It is a shame that you haven't met all your grand children yet. Traveling long distances can be pricey. My sister's mother-in-law is Canadian but she lives in England. My sister and her husband also live in England with four children. However my sister's mother in law has four other children and grand children that live in different parts of Canada. Two of them live near Toronto, one near Vancouver and one is an isolated spot on Vancouver Island.

I truly miss thoses days when family was all around. Now everyone as moved to different parts of the US. Well I moved from NY to New Mexico to be near my one grandchild. My two daughters live here to but we will be all splitting up soon to go our separate ways and this is killing me but its life. My one daughter is planning to move to Florida with my granddaughter and her husband. I will probably be moving to Puerto Rico. My oldest daughter will remain in New Mexico. I will be able to travel from PR to Florida because its close but to get back to NM to see my other daughter will be hard. Hopefully she will come to visit me in PR or family reunion in Florida. There is always skyping on the computer.

As a grandmother who has children in south east Texas, West Texas, and North West Utah; living on a fixed income I agree it is hard to travel to see them. In my case they help me with the cost and if you purchase plane tickets several months in advance you can really travel for a good price. The disadvantage to that is the once you are there you do not have your own transportation. But it is worth it easically if like me you stay for a month or so with that child. Also you will find that if you are gone for a full month and you cut your hot water heater off and most of your electric stuff then your bills at home will go down, which also helps cover the expenses you find you have if like me you cannot say no to your grandchildren. The kids feel that it is worth the money they spend as they have a babysitter that does not cost them for the times when they want to have a date night. I will be driving to visit some of the children soon and am looking forward to it although I think that the kids are concerned as there will not be a man with me for this trip and I do have severe arthritis in my spine. I want to visit before I have to have my next back surgery. It is worth not having much at home, and watching my expenses while I am at home to be able to visit my children and grandchildren. I am also lucky that my children all come to see me sometimes too. The ones in Utah just left here a couple of weeks ago, but they do not plan to return to this area for a few years. The ones in west Texas will be here in this area next week, and I am visiting the daughter that lives about a hour from me now. Plan to stay til the end of the month.
