Yes, I support capital punishment. There have been studies that show capital punishment does not reduce crime, but in the studies I have seen, the studies were seriously flawed. There are 2 primary flaws in studies that show capital punishment does not work. The first flaw involves cases where the criminal is convicted and then not executed for 10 or even 20 years. The second flaw involves cases where the criminal is convicted and not executed at all! Studies that include these 2 flaws only prove that capital punishment does not work when you do not carry out the sentence in a timely manner. However, I have yet to see a social scientist reach this conclusion.

To decide if capital punishment reduces crime we would need to look at either a period of history when the punishment was carried out in a timely manner or at a country like Saudi Arabia that has the death penalty and uses it. Murderers in Saudi Arabia do not have to wait for years to receive justice.

If we look at the history of the USA we find that during the time when hanging was utilized and the criminal did not have to wait for years for justice, the murder rate per capita was lower than in modern times.

If we look at current Saudi Arabia we find a murder rate so low in comparision to so called enlightened western countries that the western countries should be ashamed for making their citizens suffer high crime rates when it has been clearly demonstrated that quick sure justice dramatically reduces violent crime.

Am I wrong about any of this? It has been a long time since I have seen the actual numbers for any of this, but I am pretty sure I am right. I am willing to stand corrected if I am wrong.

I would suggest that if one person ... get's in jail for rape ... he should be raped first.

What you do ... if what you get. This way ... crimes would drop down for sure.

I don't support it for two reasons:

First, even if it isn't often, people have proven themselves innocent just prior to execution or been proven innocent posthumously.. you can't come back from dead.

Second, someone has to kill them, this is murder and the exectutioner isn't going to be able to save his soul by saying he did it for the money.

I think banishment to a penal colony would be better.. put all those idiots in the same place and see if they can learn a little respect when everyone around them is just as dangerous and apathetic as they are!
