What would you do if you lost your music collection? |
|
I created a discussion the other day asking how much music everyone keeps on their computer after I realized I had about two days worth of music on my computer. A lot of people responded that they had similar (or much larger) amounts of music stored, and it got me thinking about what I'd do if something happened to my computer and I lost all of that music.
Some of it is just ripped directly from albums I've purchased or borrowed from friends, so I could easily get those again, but a lot of my music was purchased through iTunes. iTunes itself keeps prompting me to backup my music, but I've never done it -- though I need to.
What about you? Do you keep a backup of your music? What would you do if something happened to your music collection?

1. ra1787 (220) | 6 months ago | I always do backups of things that i care about. My mp3 collection is saved also on dvds and most of the music is also in my mp3 player, so excluding cataclismatic events i should not lose it:D Hard disk are not as safe as we'd hope them to be, don't rely on them too much, they die quite often, bringing with them all out data:(... So backup are really necessary when you have something that you wish to keep no matter what.

| 2. dombific (84) | 6 months ago | If something happened to my music collection, I would absolutely freak. I have a lot of music on my computer, and I love most of it. To lose it would be like losing the whole computer. There would be no more background fro mylotting, as that is when I listen to a lot of my music. Of course, I could just rip songs off of CDs again, but that would be extremely time-consuming and repetitive, and I hate activities that meet those criteron.

5. crimsonladybug (1903) | 6 months ago | I have lost my music collection. I had a virus completely wreck my HD on another computer and lost about 5-600 songs. So I replaced them. It wasn't bad because most of the songs I had originally were downloaded off a dial-up modem and when I had to replace them I was on cable so it took about a third the time to replace the songs I thought I had had, plus some others.
Now I have a gigantic external hard drive where I keep all of those files, plus everything else that's important, backed up in case something happens to this computer.

6. deathspectacular (779) | 6 months ago | I do back up my music. If I ever lost it through some series of unfortunate events, I could get most of it back from my friends and I'd rebuild the rest.

10. rogue13xmen13 (7084) | 6 months ago | I would be mad, then I would start to create a new one as soon as possible. If I lost my list of music I would not be too happy about it, but I would not get overly angry about it either because that would be wasting my time, when I could start making a new list of music as soon as possible.
