They infact are a vine. I actually have about 50 plants now just from it creeping and the babbies that come from the vine. Its almost like a spider plant it has babies that come out from it on little feelers. I actually like the fact that you plant 3 plants and end up with 20 plants in a year, by the next year your over run by them. But to stop that just put hay or straw around the base of the plants. Then cut the runners off, keep what you want and transplant them or you can throw them or give them away.

we got some fruit the first year on ours, but it wasnt much, the second year we got a bumper crop of strawberries. I always make jams, and freeze alot as well as have some just for eating. If the bugs eat at some of them and you dont want to eat those just throw some in an area where you dont mind more plants growing they will start growing there from the seeds. The fruit rots right into the ground and the plants come up the next year. That is why I now make sure to have straw or hay around my plants. It keeps the bugs away to. It also keeps the runners from not rooting and mass producing. Otherwise my whole yard would be full of strawberries.
