Are dress codes for students in colleges justified? |
|
With too much vulgarity invading educational institutions, and a consequent degeneration of culture and tradtion, do you agree to these dress codes, or is a violation of basic right of freedom to express?

preethaanju (511) | 7 months ago | Should we change college campuses into walking ramps for models?
| |
|
|
zeusonfire (304) | 7 months ago | I didn't mean that buddy... What i meant that people should be given some liberty to wear what they feel like and with minimum restrictions. Wearing a pant doesn't mean you are a ramp walk model right. People should know their limitations and they should also know about the place they are living in the culture the tradition that their society bears. And if they know that then that is perfectly fine. What do you say???

3. gunagohan (902) | 7 months ago | well, im doing my engineering, final year in ECE...the first day when i entered my college, they said only abt the dress code, they said u should be tucked in properly and neatly combed...if im gonna wear full sleevs, i have to put on the hand coufs, i should to fold the sleeves, i should wear leather shoes only..they are damn hurting, im a sports man, i like to wear only spoerts shoes..
but i have to remind the University, that i live in the Republic of India, that the great leaders have fought and gave me the independance and libert in the year 1947, but im not even free to wear of my choice, where should i tell this..if im gonna file this and trial this in court, i gonna lose my seat..
i dont think that india is independent for college students..
i just take an example, united States..u see the school children in the country, how they are wearing their dress...they are free in all aspects..
the original freedom is that..not only for students for all the citizens of the country..
they jump they sing they shout they kiss anywhere in the streets, they are not noticed...this is called freedom..but in my country even if i shout or sing in the public i will be booked under nuiscance case..so i think college students and the entire country have not obtained their full freedom...

4. berrys (606) | 7 months ago | i don't think that there should be dress codes but i think that there should be guidelines to follow, you know don't tell them that they're not allowed to wear certain kinds of clothes cause that will only provoke them to want to wear the clothes even more just you know have small guidelines to follow like no shirts that are see through or no shirts that are reveal you mid section no shirts that plunge to low and no skirts that are more than 6 inches above the knee something like that oh but 1 rule that definitely must come in is that girls need to know that they're going to college to study no need to wear 6 inch high stilettos if your going to be running everywhere.

| 5. sanzmarie (8) | 7 months ago | oh! heheh having a school uniform is actually great first because it saves money in the sense that you need not need to buy as many clothes second it does consume your time deciding what you should wear in that specific day. School uniform is actually the flag of the institution, its one way of identifying their subordinates as well.

| 6. irahat (80) | 7 months ago | n my opinion the dress code for students in colleges are totally justified because students go there for studies only not for fashion and to do different stuff like playing or even flirting. I think it also reduces the fact that all students are not of same class or standard as others do so dress code somewhat makes a sense of equality among all the students and they should concentrate more on studies other than anything else.

7. macdingolinger (1241) | 7 months ago | I think there must be some sort of balances here. Yes we have the right and freedom to express ourselves, but when that right inringes on someone else's right to learn it's not appropriate. I can make my own choices but I cannot make those for others nor force them into my opinion.
It's such a fine line too as it is difficult to not allow anything offensive,as there is pretty much someone who will be offended at about anything! I think vulgarity should not be allowed on educational campuses partly because as future leaders and people in the work force, they are going to have to follow certain protocols for those business where they are employeed. Therefore it's not a bad practice to start in college!

8. Anandhh (337) | 6 months ago | nope!!! i dont agree with this dress code......cuz m a arts college student....in my college they are so strict....we have to wear only formals....which we hate the most in our college......WE ARE YOUTHS....i think there should not be any dress code...particularly in arts&science college.....and at the same time the dress code must be proper....this is particularly for girls....they can't wear as much as they like....it should be decent....
this is my opinion...

| 9. DLReveal (6) | 6 months ago | I agree that dress codes should be enforced to the extent that some clothes are a distraction from what is being offered in the classroom. Students should use common sense and govern themselves rather than have the situation become a freedom issue.
