This is how I taught my puppy to sit, I read it in a dog training book. He's standing in front of you, you have a treat in your hand, you move it towards the top of his head, passing over his nose, saying Sit, automatically he'll sit. I didn't believe it, it seemed too simple but it really did work. You do it a few times with the treat, then you do it intermittenly, so he doesn't expect it every time, but will do it because he's hopeful, LOL The name of the book was Perfect Dog and it had so many easy techniques, I was amazed. I had my puppy trained in less than a week for many different things. Sit, Come, Stay, High Five, Low Five, Down, Stop, Wait, Look and housebroken. Probably more but it's all I can think of right now. And it wasn't just for puppies, it says you can teach an old dog new tricks. And there was even a section on correcting unruly behavior. It was all positive reinforcement, making the dog want to do it, no force, no yelling, no hitting. A happy experience all around for owner and dog.
