I just got done responding to a discussion about neighborhood watch, and then this event in my life popped up that I would like to share with my fellow mylotters..
It was in the middle of summer, my son was about 5 or 6 months old.. I was having a hard time sleeping that night because I had a toothache that was keeping me awake.. It was about 5 in the morning maybe a little before or a little afterward.. it has been a couple years.. I got up because my son needed a bottle, normal I would get up and start some oatmeal for him, but for some reason I didn't.. I noticed the living room light was on.. I was living with my aunt.. I figured, no big deal she was probably up late working on the computer.. I laid back down for about ten minutes.. Then I decided to get back up to see if my aunt had any ideas how to get rid of this pain... When I walked into the living room.....
The FRONT DOOR WAS HANGING WIDE OPEN!! I immediately looked outside... THERE WAS A MAN CARRYING A BLANKET WITH A BUNCH OF STUFF!! Insticts kicked in, I bolted from the door, and caught up to the man... I grabbed the blanket full of stuff from him... it was a tug of war... Then all of a sudden my adrineal subsided.. And I was thinking to myself, WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?!?!?
I ran back into the house yelling and screaming for my aunt... Told her what had happened... She was shocked and ask me why I didnt get her first.. We observed the living room, that basterd got away with my aunties birthday present... PS2, may not seem like a whole lot but her birthday was about a week and a half before that.. Also all of my PS2 Games, about 40+...
But my aunt told me that first of all that I was foolish to be doing anything like that... THE GUY COULD HAVE HAD A GUN! Honestly that did not hit me until that moment.. The other thing was I saved her laptop... It was siting on the coffee table, along with her digital camera... among a lot of other electric devices...
Well I will not say the name of the police department due to the fact it would give my location... But we called the cops right way.. They came and inspected the missing items... Said that I MADE THE WHOLE THING UP.. Even through there were FINGER PRINTS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT PLACES OF THE THIEF.. Did they take them or get who ever to get them from the scene? HECK NO THAT'S TOO MUCH WORK!! The crime is still unsolved to this day... I did get a good look at the car, and the mans face.. Did an artist come to sketch a protriat? AGAIN WAY TOO MUCH WORK FOR POLICE!!
Please do not get me wrong I have a great respect for most police officers.. But when they come to my house saying I am a lair, when there is physical evidence proofing my story... I do not respect that...
I am just glad that man never came into my bedroom... Where my son was... Who knows what would have happened... And the one time I THANK GOD I WAS LAZY!! My son should have been at the kitchen table when all of this was going on...
Now to all of my fellow mylotters.. If you woke up and your FRONT DOOR was HANGING WIDE OPEN what would you do?

I would have grabbed the phone and went outside, not far just to look around as I called the police. I wouldn't touch the door or anything until the police got there incase there were any fingerprints. Then I would come back in and alert the rest of the family. I would look around inside and not touch anything.

That would be a better idea then going out unarmed.. Meaning no way of contacting anyone if the person happened to be outside.. I agree with the fact of no one touching anything due to the fact of fingerprints... Hopefully the police would use them in a different situation..

"Thank God I was lazy!" LOL that was a funny line although your story isn't very funny :( It was such an awful experience and I'm glad that you got through it unharmed. I am quite surprised how the police reacted in your situation. May I ask what country you're from?
I know for a fact that police from the states are quite thorough and if you ARE from the states then this is the first "lazy police" story I've heard from there. I'm from the Philippines and although we have pretty bad experiences with the police here, they're often very helpful when it comes to such crimes.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Yes that comment is funny; but that is the truth!! I have no idea what would have happened if my son was out there... Probably would have been crazier.. You know that saying about mother's protecting their young...I am from the states.. and there are some areas of the country were the police do a wonderful job.. Right now I just happen to be in an area were they are a joke...

Yes the police were a joke of all things they were accusing us of stealing our own stuff. If that was the case I would make sure what I stole was worth the call and insurance was on whatever...lol
We watched the police outside the house for over an hour just chit chatten, jokin around with each other, not bothering to do any of the work needed to catch the jerks that broke into my house.
I still have a picture of finger prints as well as a picture of the officers in my front yard just a yappin away with each other..
Was good that no one was hurt, stuff can be replaced, people can't.

Yes I am very glad that no one was hurt, I just hated the fact that the cops did not take the matter seriously.. Man I was so scared for the longest time.. I remember some of those nights that we would just stay up all night with everything turned off and heard people outside our house at night.. This situation taught me a lesson, one: some cops are just lazy two: be armed the next time with phone and something else, possible a camera and take picture of person and vehicle is appropriate... But I do not regret going after the guy.. Would probable do it again in a heart beat!! May be on the crazy side for even thinking that, but no one comes into my house and scare the crap out of my family!! Like you said stuff is just stuff.. A person's well being is much more important!!
