racism???? |
|
How many people out here believe that racism is still alive and kicking?? Do you think that we live in a more racist world or a ignorant multicultural fantasy world? I personally think there is more racism because people seem to have more choice to be racist about. I feel that the world we live is more open to multiculturalism but, at the same time has several unresolved racist issues among races. Instead of dealing with the root of the problem of a person not liking someone simply because the color of there skin is still a issue that won't go away. I think that because there are more races getting together its becoming more of the norm you see it on tv, magazine, everyday life, but I also think that because of this melting pot people want to think that racism is gone. Have you ever experienced racism know I have. And I think the only cure is a person's individual choice to change as far as the world I'll leave that problem up to GOD! Whats your opinion?

1. thoseappleslooknice (243) | 7 months ago | I think there is a lot less racism here in the UK than there used to be, at least on black people here in Salford. I was friends with some of the only black people in school (I am white) and witnessed some terrible language throughout the early years but everyone seemed to become more and more accepting and I haven't heard some bad racism in quite a while. Although perhaps that is a sign of how people must mature and therefore younger people are more likely to be racist then change their state of mind as they mature?
I do have to say though that I think some people let others down by using racism as a way of getting white people in trouble because of the difference in skin colour, although at times it can be due to a misunderstanding. I am speaking again of in school, but it does seem that at times if someone upsets someone of a different colour due to misunderstandings and/or disagreements it is automatically put down or investigated as racism when it is nothing to do with colour and there are some proper accounts of real racism that should be being investigated. In fact that is often not the fault of the people involved but those who get involved such as teachers who must be reading and going by ridiculous set guidelines. I hope all of that made sense.
I think it is a possibility that a lot of people of different races gaining absolute popularity in the celebrity world in all ways such as acting, singing really help stop racism as they are popular people and if other people of different races show admiration to them and they show friendship they are role models and the children of today will see no fault in doing the same.
Terrorism and the war in Iraq I feel has likely hurt the muslim community however.
Over all, I suppose that the answer to this changes depending on what country you live in and whereabouts in that country you live. As well as what race you are. Opinions will always be different.

apgh09 (254) | 7 months ago | You live in the UK I have never heard of any racial problems there unlike in the us. I do think that sometimes racism is often used for discrimination cases when in actuality it was a misunderstanding or disagreement. Yes I agree it's not the fault of an individual situation but people on the outside looking in! Same as the school getting invovled in a child's family life and gets the police and social services involved, when in fact it was a bruise from a fall you know. How do you think that racism is used to get white people in trouble, I don't understand your view? yes it dose depend on the country you live and experiences you have had. Yeah now a days Thanks for responding have a good day

thoseappleslooknice (243) | 7 months ago | Well sometimes I have seen that people of a different race have taken advantage of the fact that something can be easily looked into as racism when there is a disagreement between people of different races if that makes sense. So they will realise that it is not to do with colour but if a teacher gets involved and says that the other person can get punished for it, they will change the story and say that racism was part of it. But on some occasions of course racism is part of it, just not always.

2. OConnell87 (754) | 7 months ago | yeah i think the world has turned more racist because of political correctness being totally out of control, things that never bothered black people before now all of a sudden are offensive even though black people don't agree. E.G. where my mum used to work they told everyone they were not allowed to ask for a black coffee because it is racist how stupid is that, next it'll be you can't ask for a black pen or black ink in a shop.

3. mkrishna22 (413) | 7 months ago | ofcourse there is a lot of racism prevalent. it is there everywhere and in everywhere.
even in india, there is plenty of racism, if not color, it is in the form of caste, creed, etc.
this is something we have to live with.

apgh09 (254) | 7 months ago | Yes I am well aware of racism in India I have herd of the social class issues your treated based on your economic class. I also herd of problems with skin complexion issues with particularly female Indians trying to complete with western beauty standards they will lighten there skin. I think it's very sad and unfortunate. How do Indian men see complexion would you say when choosing a mate that is taken into consideration to want a female with a lighter complexion vs a darker one? In the US complexion is a huge issue people of darker people of color are always faced with issues from wanting to be lighter. And it seems like people who are darker usually choose to have a partner who is lighter complected. I know this sounds crazy but sometimes its so that the children have a better chance to have a lighter skin tone. Have you ever seen the movie THE NAMESAKE by Mira Nair it's a really great Indian movie that talks about the trails and tribulations of a Indian family who tries to maintain their heritage while living in the US and how their children are faced with racial and cultural issues. If anyone of you who responded gets a chance to watch the movie feel free to share your opinions with me and or my lot. thanks for responding have a good day

4. marguicha (3637) | 7 months ago | I think there´s so much racism in the world that I can hardly stand it. And when it´s nor a race someone dispises, it´s a culture, a gender, a religion. I wish someday we could respect the rest of the people, even if they are not our clones. I don´t think that this is a problem we have to leave to God. We have to do it ourselves.

5. nympha687 (690) | 7 months ago | A lot of people deny being racist but actually practice racism. We can see this every where, in schools, offices, even in service industries. Although, we have gone global and multicultural, people still feel comfortable being with people of their own race and tend to discriminate. The solution then is to create more exposure to other races, develop inter-racial relationships so we get used to the presence of other people. That way we feel comfortable being with them although we are not of the same color and though we don't speak the same language.

apgh09 (254) | 7 months ago | hi mympha, yes i agree with you, I love meeting people of different nationalities, but I do notice that sometimes in some cases people cling to there own culture. and I notice that sometimes that when I go into a store of another culture i notice different reactions to my presence some maybe good some maybe bad. One good experience was when I went into this Indian store and I would go there regularly but the lady was never extremely friendly but never rude. But one day we struck up a conversation of mutual interest and she opened up. So I guess even though people there may be a language barrier if there is a common interest than we can overcome our racial issues. Thanks for your comment have a good day

6. lucy02 (4472) | 7 months ago | Unfortunately yes, I do think its still very much alive. As someone mentioned, a lot of people say they aren't racist but their behavior says differently. I have experienced it somewhat. I'm white though and live in an area that is mostly white. I do remember when I was in college though that there was this girl in our dorm that hated white people and was pretty outspoken about it. Things have change quite a bit over the years though. That's something to be thankful for. I am afraid though that there will always be racists out there.

| lovenish00111 (68) | 7 months ago | dear u said u r white.........let me comment a little about it....that
by saying i am white what u wanna say....
are u the color WHITE are u the white sking are u white head, hand, face, etc
if u say i am leg, hand, head, hair, nail, eyes, mouth then what does u mean.
u say my head, my hair, my mouth, my hand, my body.......then it clearly reveals that u are not body.....but u own body.
so the result is u the soul the separate power from body who own this body do intelligent tasks of thinking.
the body is mortal but u r immortal

7. nitu1952 (168) | 7 months ago | racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. in the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or beneifits.

8. sudiptacallingu (7279) | 7 months ago | I too feel that racism is on the rise…not the typical colour-based racism of last centuries but a far more dangerous kind as more and more people mingle and migrate and competition for a better lifestyle chokes us regularly. People of a particular region, who have till now enjoyed and lived their own lifestyle and tradition, suddenly feel threatened by influx of newer people who are no less aggressive as they fight out to settle in newer places and grab a share of the pie. This new kind of racism is not about dominating another race but rather protecting one’s own territory, jobs, security, culture…the more people feel threatened of being usurped, the more racist they are bound to become.

| |
|
|
apgh09 (254) | 7 months ago | hi sudiptacallingu, yes that is so true, it is not only a race issue nowadays but people who are trying to hold onto their traditions and culture do that they can pas it along to there children. So many people around the world are battling to hold on to there way of life that being threaten due to environmental changes, heavy influence from other cultures, or some other reason or people who want to come into there lives ad tell them that what they have been doing for centuries is wrong and need to be changed. I was watching this program were these people were in turmoil for these exact reasons listed above. It was very interesting, because on top of that they were faced with the younger generation disagreeing with the ways of the tradition and wanting to find new ways to due things and the older generation would try to explain the importance of the tradition and its history. Thanks for your comment.

9. sjvenden27 (543) | 7 months ago | I have be discriminated against several times.. By people of all colors... for one reason or another.. Just because I did not fit in or part of the crowd... I am native American, so I do not look like one type of people.. I am part of a dying race..
People have sat there and accused me of racism in the past... Then I ask them one question.. Unless you are on a reservation, how normal is it to see three native Americans walking down the street at the same time? I have always gotten the answer, none...
Why would I do something to someone else when I do not like people doing that to me? Racism is alive and in the for front now.. At least here in America... Suppose to be the land of the free... But with each day that passes our freedoms are belittled. Age is now a major factor, sexual orientation... what is next?? People are different, there are no two that are exactly alike... Just because we look different or believe in something that is different does not change the fact we all bleed red.. We are all part of the same planet, we are all part of the same species, human.. Why are we acting like animals?

apgh09 (254) | 7 months ago | hi sjvenden27 sorry to hear that you have been discriminated against, I think it is horrible to what has happened to the many Native Americans who owned America's land. I can count on my hand how many time I have talked to a Native American. I have a question and please don't take offense. There are many Indian reservations it's 2009 and Native Americans should not feel that they have to live and die on a reservation or try to find other ways to bring money into the community? I know it's not easy but if it's a community effort maybe positive changes can be made. Why don't Indians invest in real estate and help regrow there neighborhoods? I know were I live the Seminole Indians own the casino and that is a profit for them but otherwise than that I don't hear any other info. Thanks for your comment.
