Does skipping destroys a music CD  |

 i often get some of my music CDs damaged because i do skip some of the songs which i think i don't like, i always want to play the most popular songs on such CDs and i wonder if that is the reason why some of them stop playing or scratches when i play them, does anybody know the reasons why music CDs scratches when they got played too much

1.  dogsnme (598) | 6 months ago |  CD's get scratched when they are handled improperly and when they accumulate dust and dirt not when some songs are played more than others. It simple doesn't work that way. Handle them correctly and keep them clean and they should play flawlessly virtually forever. Also periodically run a lens cleaner through the CD player as the laser lens that reads the CD can also get dirty and cause the CD to not play properly. I've had the same CD's and DVD's for years and still have no problem playing them but I've also had CD's and DVD's that I didn't take as good care of and they skipped or didn't play at all. Keep them clean and handle them properly and you shouldn't have anything to worry about regardless of how much you "wear a song out."

OConnell87 (754) | 6 months ago |  not heard of cd's being damaged because of skipping i would hope that they were made so they couldn't be damaged that way, but then again they are fragile things and even holding them can damage them, and the slightest scratch could ruin them thats why i just download songs and then burn them onto a cd so i haven't wastd money and if that cd becomes damaged i can just make a new one

3.  voldrox (1535) | 6 months ago |  cd's don't get scratched due to skipping songs, i do that all the time, i think maybe the handling of the cd's has got to do something with it. skipping songs is completely alright and you should worry about the cd just because you are skipping songs... don't forget to keep the cd in it's proper case after listening to it...

Ideally a CD should not get damaged when you skip tracks but sadly it does not happen in real life. CDs undergo wear and tear with the passage of time and when you do too much skipping, it scratches the surface and then it starts to get damaged. I would advice you to avoid it as much as possible.

Any wear and tear that the CD undergoes over time is a result of improper handling of the CD or failure to keep the CD clean of fingerprints or dirt. I know this because I have CD's that I have had for years that show no signs of wear like you speak of and I have played them many many times including skipping songs in order to hear my favorites. If anything, the CD player will wear out before the CD itself will. | |
