Transferring Files from iPod to Computer

Hi guys, just need a lil bit of help. I've been trying to copy video and music files from an iPod nano to my PC but can't seem to do so. I've searched google on ways on how to do this and found out, Apple may have intentionally done this to prevent piracy but I really need some of these files and the iPod nano does not belong to me. I can't seem to copy and paste manually. I've tried copying everything from the music folder located in the iPod_control folder (which is hidden) but still can't seem to add the files to my iTunes library. Help. I'm at a loss. Thanks.
