Most of us have several favorite colors, but one color, or color family, will usually stand out from all the rest. What is your favorite color, and what makes it so pleasing to you? I love shades of blue, for instance. They remind me of things of nature, such as the sky or the sea, and I find it a very calming and peaceful color, whether as wall paint or flowers or on clothing. Everything and anything bright is what keeps me going, but my all time favorite color is a chocolate brown. I feel like if I were a color, that's what I'd be. Individualistic, different from the rest, and at times misunderstood. I think brown is beautiful in its own right. On laundry day, while I'm standing in my hot pink laundry room (haha), you can really tell I love bright colors, though. Most of my laundry consists of bright colors--greens, blues, pinks, yellows, oranges...I find red to be a little too bold, but a hot pink/yellow is just right for me. My house is another indication of my love for bright colors...I was very lucky my husband didn't mind. Our kitchen is a bright yellow (the color of the double yellow line on a street...in my profile picture you'll see this color), our living room is a dark maroon-red, our game room is a really bright periwinkle blue, and our bedroom is neon lime green with orange, turquoise, and fuschia painted flowers. Our laundry room is hot pink, our storage room is a clementine bright orange, and our garage will soon be a deep purple. Bright colors make me feel great no matter what. Like I tell everyone...I grew up with white walls, so I don't have any now. :)

Hi Loving. Bright colors ARE cheerful and very energizing. I love blues best, but I do have a multi-colored wardrobe. I hang my clothes grouped by color. My oldest daughter tells me my closet reminds her of a roll of Life-savors candy lol. Karen

Life savers? Good connection! :) I've thought often about sorting my clothes by color but I use drawers for spring/summer clothes so it could get hectic! But that's a good idea for sure.

I have found my color preference has changed a little over the years. I loved green and still like it alot. My bedroom ceiling is a lime green (weird I know.. lol). Now Im tending to lean toward the oranges, like tangerine and such. In fact I will be painting my living room a tangerine color and my kitchen is a blue with orange. Orange just seems to give me energy and brightens my day.

Hello Ithink. Our tastes in some things to tend to change as grow. It is interesting that your ceiling is lime green, but I imagine the effect is cheering! Most of us think that ceilings should usually be white or match the rest of the room, but professional decorators often do differently, such as painting the room one color, but the ceiling a different color (not white) One of the prettiest I've seen is a light blue ceiling with clouds painted on it in a nursery! And yes, oranges are very energizing. Karen

That would be so cool .. blue with clouds! I have to do our 2 year olds room and have been thinking about different things for it. I doubt I will do that but I am thinking of a mural on one wall and then the chalk paint on one. Decisions decisions! lol

Oh, but redoing a child's room is such fun! And I've seen some of the greatest murals others have done, like one of a jungle, another of ocean plants, shells, and fish, and sometimes movie or cartoon characters. You're right, there a almost too many choices lol.

blues and whites.. - The sky looked amazing that day! This was shot just before the rains.
Blue, with its variant shades is just beautiful! I love lighter hues of blue. I love any soft and subdued colors. Shades of cream, pink, peach, mauve, blue. My mom feels I look good in darker shades though and she would buy dark shades for me. Dark suits me but I like lighter colors and black. Here's one shot of the blue sky with fluffy clods that I shot last week from my bedroom.

Mim, like you, blues and other soft shades suit me well. And I love the sky photo. What a beautiful sight to see from your room! That is one reason I love blues...so much of it is found in nature, which I find peaceful. Karen

I love blue and green equally so I know. They are the colors of Mother Nature at her finest. I love to see the sea and its color can be a shade of blue. I adore the color of plants and grass which are green. I find blue and green to calm and peaceful colors.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, I like Blue colour. Calm and Cool: Blue is calming. It can be strong and steadfast or light and friendly. Almost everyone likes some shade of the color blue. Pantone has selected the color Blue Iris (PANTONE 18-3943) as the 2008 Color of the Year telling us: "Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement." May God bless You and have a great time.

Hi Mermaid. I love many colors, too, and as an artist, can appreciate the beauty in each. The red you love best is very energizing, a cheerful color, and one that represents confidence. I've done a lot of research on color and how it affects us...very interesting! Enjoy all your colors :) Karen

I love the shades of pink. It really goes with my personality. But I wouldn't never decorate my house with pink (I doubt my boyfriend would like that too much :-p). But for decorations I love shades of blue.

Hi Dreamr. I know a lot of people in my own family love pink, but yes, if you live with a male, he might not want the house decorated in that lol. Blues are nice for that, very peaceful and soothing. Thank you for adding your preferences. Karen

I love RED. Rather blood red (deep red) is my favorite - it is a vibrant color and gives energy. It is not only a stimulating color but also a color that symbolizes extrovert. When ever i see the color red (varients of red rather) it stirs my mind and makes me instantly active :)

hi pal, To be descriptive, in a research in UK it had been found that a persons character and nature of thinking can be found with the help of the color they find pleasing. For example GREEN which stands for prosperity, if a person has a STRONG internal liking for it then He is optimistic. It's just a point but they did wide range of survey to designate a quality of each color. I thought of mentioning this fact as you started a nice topic. I particularly like brown

Hello Deepak. I have more white shirts and tops than any other color. Thankfully, I don't spill on them too often! But yes, they add a very clean and neat appearance and go well with anything we might choose to wear below them. A great choice :) Karen

Hi Oconnell. Purple is a cheering color, deep and rich. Perhaps someday you'll buy something purple to wear. I have a purple sweater I love...so soft and vibrant, and an amethyst ring...more lavender than purple, but I love both. Karen

I absolutely LOVE the color green especially lime green or shades of bright green and it is so pleasing to me that I wear it quite regularly. We have a park around here that has bamboo all along the sidewalk and I go there frequently because I find it very therapeutic to be around. I also have my garden in front of my apartment with bell pepper plant, tomato plants, basil, Yew, St Johns plant, collard greens, basically its an all green garden for the most part. The only color comes from Daffodil plants the apts planted and my pink magenta flowers that make a statement all by themselves. Even my car is green!

Hello Rev. In the earliest years of my marriage, I had a dinette set with a white table and lime green chairs. It always looked so fresh and inviting! And yes, nature and your park are very therapeutic. I think that is why I am particularly taken with blues and greens found so often in nature. Your green garden sounds lovely, too! Green is said to be a soothing and a healing color. So your choice is a good one. Karen

Hello Rainmark. Pale yellow can be very soothing, and the brighter shades of yellow, like the flowers you mention, are cheering like the sunshine. No yellow dresses, eh? But I imagine yellow shoes are cool :) Thank you for you input. Karen

I've always liked blacks and reds, but mainly blacks. People find it strange that I would prefer black to all other colors and they'll ask me why I don't wear or use more color, but I've always found black to be very soothing and intense. It's genuinely my favorite color and I've always been partial to it for as long as I can remember.

Hi Meliora. I think black is a sophisticated color, and looks well when "dressing up." Sometimes we don't know why a thing appeals to us. It just does :) Karen
