What can I do to help my friend whose father had a stroke?

My friend's father recently had a stroke and was denied disability, although doctors say he'll never work again. Because of this, my friends family is going to lose their house and my friend is dropping out of grad school to move back home to try and hold his family together.
Are there any organizations or foundations that have some type of scholarship or fund for situations like this?
Can I nominate either my friend specifically, his father, or his family in general to help them out in any way?
If anyone has any ideas at all, please let me know.

I am also fighting with social security disability. I found a lawyer close to me that doesn't get paid unless I get disability and he only gets 25 percent of any back pay that I get. I think it is worth it. I have not received anything yet but I haven't been with the program that long. There are many different places that I see that they will help you out but they get 25 to 50 percent of the back pay. It just depends on what you are willing to do. Look it up online and find one that is right for you. But make sure to ask the questions of how much they get and if you have to pay them or if they only get it if you win.

First the family needs to appeal the decision not to get disability, they should be able to work with the hospital social worker to help get this done. In addition the social worker would be a great help in providing information on organizations that can help with financial aid to assist the family during this time. He needs to apply for Social Security benefits as well. There are many options for them, the first step is to communicate with the Social Worker at the hospital in order to get some ideas on what steps to take next.
