Starting a Discussion: A responsibility

Ahhhh I like the way you think. I think the same way - I started a discussion about limiting the number of discussion a member can have in a 24-hour period. That would really encourage people to think about what they should start before starting it.

You have a very good point! Starting a discussion is really a responsibility for the member who started it. That is the reason why I only start discussions once in a while. I would rather respond than to think of topics to start. But when I start, I make sure that I read the responses. This site is good for us to talk and discuss about anything. And at the same time, earning something. There is nothing wrong with people who want to earn more!

I tend to agree with you but not totally. I agree that you should know the topic or have great compassion about the topic. Sometimes you could need more information about a topic. Earlier I started a topic discussion in Sleepwalking because I read all 4 pages of responses and didn't see what information I wanted. I also agree that if you start too many topics at once then you don't have the time and thought required to give meaningful, well developed answers. But that is the great benefit of this community. Someone will come around and give you more or unexpected information from an angle that you didn't think about. Then there are people out there how can start 50 topics and manage them perfectly. That's the beauty of this site. Life's like a box of chocolates....you never which one your going to get!

I don't start a lot of discussions. I think it is hard to find an original topic, because there are already a lot of discussions, and most topics have already been covered many, many times. If someone has already made a discussion about the topic that I am interested I often respond to one of the existing discussions instead of starting my own discussion.

I agree with you, I think that you have got a responsibility if you start a new discussion. I don't comment on every response in my discussions, but I read and rate them all and I answer the questions that I get, I would never just start a discussion and then leave it.

I don't start all that many discussions, but when I do, I make it a point to read all responses and comment on them, and I don't just give a thank you for your response, like I have see some do. I feel that I have a duty and a right to post comments to all responses that I get, no matter how many that may be. One discussion I started had 20 responses and another one had 37, and I commented on each and every one of them as well. They took the time to respond, so I took the time to comment back. I never just leave a discussion hagnging without commenting on the responses, and after all, when we do comment, we get paid for them, as long as they are quality and not just a few words or one liners. I most certainly do post comments to all the responses I get not matter how many there are. It is my duty and right to do so. I have one discussion that has 20 responses, and another one has 37 responses. I just feel that if they are going to take the time to respond, then I am going to take the time to post comments back. I've been on Mylot for almost 3 months, and my discussions have just gone into double figures - and that only happened because I mistakenly posted the same discussion twice! I agree with you - too many people are starting frivolous discussions, with one eye on their earnings and no brain power in the discussion.

I think if people were allowed to post a maximum of 5 discussions a day, that would improve matters. I also think that people who do not comment on any of their responses should lose their earnings for that discussion. You don't need to comment on every response - some responses don't invite comments anyway - but some people just post the topic and never go back to that discussion to check responses. Deleting the discussion would mean the responders would lose out as well, but if the offending discussion leader lost earnings, it would make them think again, as they don't like to be hit in the pocket. Hi there I totally agree with you.I came in mylot for couple of months.But i have only started several discussions.Well.the reason is i know the responsibility when i started a discussion and many of comments on my discussion.In the end i even don't know what they are talking about.There is really sad.i don't hope people came and post just for cent.it doesn't worth

Yes, I do agree with your comments. I think some members are making a ton of discussions to just make a quick buck. I try to make at least one or two discussions a day. I do check in on the discussions after a few days and reply to the responses on them.

Hey I feel the same way! And then I feel like I have to choose the best response which sometimes I don't know which to pick. heh
