The Hobbit: two movies?

Hi. I hadn't heard that they were doing that. I agree that films are never as good as the book. The directors tend to take the parts that they think are important and run with it. I think that you're right that it is doomed to failure. People that read the books first and disappointed by the movies and people who watch the movies first then read the books only to find themselves awed because the movie now makes sense.:)

I hadn't heard about them splitting it up but as long as the book was it's understandable. If they're adding anything it's just to make sure there's enough for two movies.

I think that it needs to be 2 movies. If not, then I think they would have to cut out too many things. These movies are supposed to entertain people, and they are trying to connect the Lord of the Rings movies to the Hobbit movie.

It depends Peter Jackson did a wonderful adaptation of the other books and they were heavily compacted into the movies, several parts were totally removed and overlooked, the most glaring of which was the The Return of the King, the book ending and the movie ending are very different. Since all of Tolkien books are very dense and complex I think it is possible to extend the book to two movies, maybe even add some bits from other books and complete the view of Middle Earth. To be honest I can't wait to see what they do, it must be difficult to make movies for an audience with such high expectations.
