Rising price of a packet email this discussion to a friend?

I've heard a rumours that the next rise in cigarette tax gonna make a packet of 25s here in Australia cost AU$20.
Limitations on place I can smoke is getting more strict every year too.
I admit that these are good things after all (i.e. smoking is bad), but at the same time, things seem to have become really tough on addicts like me!

I've also heard that tobacco companies in developed countries are now targetting developing countries where cigarette tax is still low.

What are the situations in your country?

If the exchange rates are correct it would mean a packet costs 11 euros in your country, w00t!?

In Holland you pay somewhere between 4.00 and 4.50 for a packet of 19 cigarettes. Meaning that australia is more expensive.

The Dutch government is constantly pushing the price by raising the tax on cigarettes. But as this only goes about 10 cents a year, this won't contribute much to a lower usage of cigarettes. Probably because they are afraid health insurances will then add all kinds of therapies on quiting smoking, meaning costs will find it's way through the roof and beyond.

At the moment, it is around A$10~A$15 for a pack of 20s, depending on the brand and where I buy it from. Apparently, around 70% of this retail price is tax, which is crazy as is already lol

In USA smoking is slowly getting banned from just about everywhere, and anti-smoking campaigns are trendier than cigarettes. The price of smoking rises and the restrictions on tobacco companies are just recently increased. So its best to try and find a way to kick the habit before smoking becomes an undue financial burden.

I don't understand why it was even allowed at the first place anyway.
