Will Liverpool feel regret of not re-signing Owen? email this discussion to a friend?

tripleh1029 (3)6 months ago

Personally think that the contract between Owen & the now employer - Red Devil is just nice. Yes, i agree that the wages Owen earn now is lower by half, but if he manage with more starts & goal...the incentive could be way up to 100K pound per week.
Why i say Liverpool may feel regret? The reason should be the case of re-signing Owen back is by no lost at all. Given that Owen was out of contract & lower wage demanded. Don't forget this sport is always talking about business, the way all businessman talking about profit & loss. Looking back, the deal of selling Owen out to Madrid had brought big profit to Liverpool. Now, the club got a chance to sign back at no cost. What had Liverpool lost? Then, people will turn to question Owen always injured & effected Liverpool's performance. I personally think that injury is part of the game. For Owen, he may be injured quite frequently but look at the proven record he had in history. Although injured many times, but the goal ratio is higher than those who always start.
Hence, I would say MU made a good acquistion although I am a liverpudian. I feel regret on Liverpool behalf. What you say....

I am a life long liverpool fan and I would of been upset if they had tried to sign owen.

He isn't half the player he used to be, he will prob be good for maybe 15/16 goals next season.

He is far too injury prone, and to be honest he wouldnt get into the liverpool side with torres and the attacking mid-fielders we have at liverpool.

I wish owen all the success in the world but his best days and speed, are far behind him.

tripleh1029 (3)  6 months ago

I would say he is a clever player not matter in which club. For a short & small player liked him need to get pass all those defenders & score goals is not easy! It's the natural instinct that lead him to goal. Even when he transferred to Madrid, he still managed goals even his starts has been limited. Moreover, the game in Spain was not using speed to win the goal. So, by looking at the scoreboard he may not the highest goal of all but he was among the highest goal/time in Spain.

So, if he was to partner with Torres, I guess his position will be a little higher upfront than torres. It would not be a problem for two game intelligent players. He is kind of player who know where the ball will drop in the right place. Hence, I would say he should be the missing puzzle Liverpool is looking for. Look at Liverpool situation right now, they can't always rely on Gerrard & Torres. Gerrard is not a striker. He has his own half field need to take care of. Torres could not always be lonely striker & having partners that not understand him.

Hi tripleh1029,

I disagree with you on this. I think Owen is pass his time. He is not what he is before he left for Madrid. I agree that injury is part of the games but Owen is too fragile. He is just like a glass. A slightly touch will make him have an appointment with a doctor again. You can afford this in a big and important games.

Free transfer is a good bargain but you still have to pay a salary. Liverpool is not where he is in yesteryear in term of account balance. Since this American take control on Liverpool, there is never been a positive balance because of loan interest. So, they just can not waste their money on someone is not so sure about his playing time. Remember, injury means doctor and doctor means money.

Wish a good luck to Owen. Liverpool would be better without him.

Happy mylotting and you will never walk alone.

You're rating Michael Owen on his past record with Liverpool, which is totally wrong. I don't care if he was free, Man Utd don't care about saving money, it's all about winning titles with Man Unted, they're not Man City. Man Utd won't go out of business if they buy a 60 million pound footballer.

I rate Owen entirely on his current fitness, skills and potential to score. Michael Owen frankly cannot fit the system and pace of how Man Utd play. He lacks speed, and he cannot score without HEAVY support. His goal record was amazing at Liverpool but Owen is no longer a 18 year old, and Utd never build around one player as Liverpool used to do, therefore Owen will struggle.

I don't think he'll score many goals, nor do I think he can even start any matches with Berbatov and Rooney in the team. There's still enough time for United to buy more players, and I doubt Owen will even be third choice if United can buy Aguero who is a similar player to Messi.

It could be wrong when he decided to go Newcastle. There isn't enough support from that lousy midfield. The cause of all would be poor management. Dun say too much on this.

Now he is a Devil. I dun think Sir Alex bought him & only use him as 3rd choice striker. First of all, i also dun think Aguero wil be in the picture. Devils have enough stike force now. I think Sir Alex is think of changing his system to the horrified 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 system like Barca did right now. Hence, with 3 strikers in front, they could be the most danger strike force again in BPL.

i think owen will do well at manchester united. his best days as a fast paced striker are gone but he can still score, he knows where the net is. if he's used correctly and not as a lone striker i'm sure he'll get plenty of scoring chances and i'm willing to bet that he scores 15-20 league goals next season.

i think liverpool will regret not re signing him, he has gone to their biggest rivals and in my opinion a squad can never have too many quality strikers. alex ferguson is no fool and i'm sure he would not have signed owen if he felt that owen couldn't do a job for the club.

tripleh1029 (3)  6 months ago

This is what i am trying to say to Revan2009. Sir Alex is no fool. If he is, he won't be at the same club for more 20 years & still bringing the glory to MU.

We all know Owen can score if he is given the service (from world class players) as you have pointed out. Now explain which formation system Man Utd will play to fit Owen in the plans... I don't think Man Utd will play a system that suits Owen, because it may not suit the other United players, and the opposition can exploit the weakness created by Owen. Man Utd has one of the most flexible systems in the world, but Owen cannot play any of them. He finds it difficult to find space, he can't hold the ball, he can't win headers and he lacks creativity.

Liverpool have Torres, therefore they won't regret taking Owen back. But if Torres wants to swap shirts with Owen, I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson will be happy to let Owen leave for free... hell he'll pay Owen to leave.

liverpool must not be disspointed tht thy dint sign owen. not cause he is not a good striker.he s a wonderful striker. but thy have got torres. but we cant say. if the had signed owen he could have got along well with torres and made a dream pair. u can never say. when it comes to buisness, he s a very good buy. liverpool could have cashed on him. wat u say is right in this part. he would have got along well with the team as it was his old club. now we see him targetiing the golas wearing manu tshirt.
