NASCAR: A sport?  

I don't think NASCAR is a sport. I think that it's a huge waste of time and money and is terrible for the environment. Consider how much petroleum-based fuel and oil those cars go through during a race. It's incredibly wasteful.

Nascar is a sport and anyone whom has actually gone to a race and seen first hand what these drivers go through would agree. You can not get behind the wheel of one of those cars and drive 500 miles with a track temperature of over 100 and not be an athlete. There is so much more to it than just driving in circles, you have to have a lot of knowledge of the track, the weather and how it is going to effect your car, your opponents and how the car works in the draft with the wind, with the track cooling off or heating up and what to do to make your car the best out there.

of course any competitive activity is a sport. a sport doesn't have to be defined by the inclusion of running around, sport simply means fair competitiveness.

personally i think motor racing should be banned because it encourages people to drive too fast on roads, without these track heroes these idiot drivers would have no heroes to emulate therefore there would be less chance of people trying to break the speed record and causing accidents on our roads.

I have no idea about Nascar sport but i have listened it is official race and so many people are watching in TV and i think it is a huge waste of time and money.Nascar race is a different to F1 race so many petroleum will be waste to cars and its very loss.Nascar is not a sport its a race game.

NASCAR is definitely a sport. I love it, everything about it. I agree with you though, it's a team and honestly without that team, the driver wouldn't have much of a chance of winning races or a championship for that matter. You have the pit crew, crew chief and all the people back at the shop. They all fit together like a puzzle, you need each and every one of them. They all have a job to get done and if it gets done right than the team runs well.

I love NASCAR opposed to others I have read on here. For my own restrospect, I have got speeding tickets and I am not a NASCAR driver, I know ones who don't watch this "sport" and still get speeding tickets. many boys per se, its in their blood as they grow up. The fuel and harming the environment, they are looking for ways to help the environment and themselves. There are other sports and events out there that also containment the earth.
Anyway, had to vent... It is a sport. You have a team, crew, mechanics, spotters, uniforms, equipment and you have to be in shape. You have to have the stamina to be in a tight spot for 3-4 hours, in the heat not only the cars heat but the track heat. Needless to say, you have to work out, be physically fit, be healthy. It is not just sitting in the car, but watching gauges, knowledge of the mechanics of the car, is the car set up, too tight, too lose, paying attention to other cars around you, then sometimes you will have issues with sun being in your way. To be in one of these cars you have to go to classes and train in a car and get a specific license to even drive one of these babies. It is not easy as some may think it is. It is a sport......Motorsport.
