Traveling to Long Beach, California

Wondering if anyone lives in Long Beach, California how the area is by Civic Plaza? Is it a good neighborhood or not. Staying at the Doubletree Hotel on Civic Plaza. I would appreciate if anyone knew if it was nice area or not to please let me know. Thank you so much!

I remember Long Beach from many years ago...I didn't live far from it. However, they say the town that I lived in is really a gangster town now, so I don't know if Long beach was affected by it.
