Bad credit and repairing it...

I was wondering, when you have a bad spell in your life and you get behind in bills... and alot of people will be in this situation in the recent economy....It got me thinking!! (this is always a bad thing--
dont let me think to much!!)
When you start to get behind on your bills and some people have even gone so far as to lose there house these days.... where do you start when you start to rebuild and repair your credit??
I know of a few of my family members that have gone as far as file for bankruptcy and some have done well enough to just make it through the last few years...so when you have hit bottom and you need to start to repair/rebuild your life....where do you start?
