Of all of the low down, greedy, cold- hearted S.O.B's!

Recently a friend of ours learned that his father had passed away. He learned of this late Friday night. Apparently my friend's dad's landlord went looking for my friend's dad because he was late paying his rent for this month, which was very unusual for him. My friend's dad's landlord found my friend's dad lying on the kitchen floor of his apartment, already deceased when the landlord found him. According to the coroner, the man had been deceased approximately 4 or 5 days before he had been found. Anyway, the police and the coroner contacted my friend's mom and notified of her of the death (they have not been married or together for a long time) and in turn my friend's mom contacted and informed my friend of the death of his father. My friend and his wife went to his late father's apartment to gather his father's personal belongings and whatnot. Now as they were in the process of doing this, and my friend was, of course, deeply in grief and mourning, the landlord of the deceased, with not even so much as a, "sorry for your loss", before hand, says to my friend, "Well, you are going to pay the rent that your dad owed for this month, aren't you?" I should make it clear here that my friend's dad lived alone, his son and daughter in law did not live him, so I would assume that they are under no contract or obligation with the deceased's landlord to pay him anything. More importantly, and I'll say, I'm not familiar with the laws enough to know if that man's landlord is entitled to any rent on behalf of the recently deceased in this case or not, but regardless, am I the only one who thinks that this man is a cold hearted, greedy, S.O.B that he would, right off the bat, demand rent money from a grief stricken loved one on behalf of a deceased person?

I agree with you, that was a cold-hearted thing to say. Some people are so greedy that all their after in this world is money. The family members should have told him where to get off. I wouldn't pay a dime even if he did try to come after me for it. As long as their not on the lease their not responsible for it.

I don't know if they can do that or not but it's worth looking into.

If he is going to reap what he sows, then that landlord is in big trouble.

That is so heartless. I am not sure but I don't think the landlord can legally go after anyone else for the rent. He could file a claim against the estate. What a jerk.
