My son did a pretty good English accent. But I hear all the stuff I read in American English...

I think that's pretty interesting, seeing as some of the stuff I read here is some times incoherent.

Come to think of it...some people I know in person talk that way! AND THEY VOTE!!!

It's scary, some of the people who vote....

This one does. Every morning I tell her to hurry up and ripen the fruit. She bows her head (or branches) and tells me that she is doing the best she can. At least - I think she does - do you think that I should go back and see that docor again? He said that I only ned to return if the bananas were talking to me. He didn't say anything about breadfruit. Memo to self: Tell the Doctor about Dawn and talking breadfruit.

Well if the bananas are talking to you, could be an indication that you are, yes, going bananas. But I've never heard of ANYBODY going breadfruit, so I think you're OK.

I feel the same way when it comes to German. I need to listen for a long while before I can warm up to talking.

FYI, the world as a globe/planet is divided into lines of longtitude and latitude.
The latitudinal line known as the 49th parallel is famous for being the border between the United States and Canada, across the continent.

Longitude and latitude I understand. What number goes where, I have no clue! lol

Zero at the North Pole and the numbers get bigger as you go south until you hit the equator and then it reverses...................

"Trainspotting" was written like that and it took a while to get used to! "The Color Purple" was written using accents as well and that too took a while to get my head around.

Vaguely reaching back into my memory, I think it was Faulkner who started writing dialog the way people actually spoke. Hard to read but without it, you lose a lot of the color of the story...

I usually plow through books I like but this one is taking me awhile. I am 'vocalizing' each passage that has the accented dialogue. I need to do that to understand it...lol.

I've read books with southern accents written the way they are spoken..but I HAVE a southern accent and listen to it every day...so it's not so difficult to understand as the scotts. I remember when I was in middle school, the Beatles had just arrived and we girls would talk in what we thought were British accents...lol We were a mixture of cockney and the Queen's English, I think! lol

Aha I was guessing you had some sort of a southern accent. I bet it's not the same one that Aunt Rita (South Carolina) has. lol
