if you are to buy a digicam what brand would you choose?  

I would choose Sony Digicam, of course because it is sleek, very compact and durable. Though the price is expensive, it is worth it.

For Pocket Digital Camera, I would suggest on Sony. It is very easy to used and good on result. Only on memory, Sony always used their own product "memory stick" and expensive. Other choice, you can choose on Casio. Casio bateray can stand longer and a lot of feature, such as recording and can read a document. Please find original Casio from Japan, It is very good on quality.
If you looking on SLR, I would suggest on Nikon DSLR D90 with 18-200mm lense. You can get very good result even you set in auto mode.

i think it really depends on your price range and what purpose you have for your camera. If you are just looking to take pictures of family and friends, a simple polaroid digital camera, which ranges from about 50-80 US dollars would really help with your budget, but still get great pictures. the features might be a tad limited but it takes a picture.
if you want to take better pictures of hiking trips, landscapes and other things, getting a kodak easyshare camera is great. it has plenty of features like panoramic views, 3x optical zoom for snapshots and 5x optical zoom for cropping photos. There are also fun tools that play with color like sepia tones, black and white, and HD still captures. these particular cameras are anywhere between 80-150 US dollars.
for a more professional digital camera, you may want to go with Canon EOS Rebel XS. These cameras usually have a lot more megapixels to offer than a standard digital camera. The features are excellent like electronic image stabilization, shutter speeds up to 30 - 1/4000 sec, and digital red eye reductions. These cameras are great for bloggers, semi-professional photographers and photography students. You can even add great lenses for effect like fisheye lenses, wide angle lenses and fixed focal length lenses. They make pictures turn into works of art with a simple change in the lens you are using.
I honestly am a supporter of buying a camera made by a photography company. A company known for photography or in the dark ages of film. Kodak, canon, fuji, and polaroid are all brands that i recommend looking at before making a decision. I personally feel more comfortable buying from a company that knows photography and the science of picture-taking.

I would suggest that you buy a sony camera. They tend to be much more expensive but they are good quality. I bought one about three years ago and it's still in perfect condition. You need to buy a storage card as well as the camera (which are about $50) but it's worth it because you can take tons of pictures and video. Sony in general makes very good brands and their equipment lasts a long time.

I like to stick to brands that are known for photo production and developing. Kodak, Canon and Fuji are usually the brands that I look for when shopping for a digital camera.

It makes sense this way because you want a company that knows what an everyday person needs for picture taking, picture developing and picture editing. For instance, if you were buying kitchen utensils and appliances, you would choose Kitchenaid, Cusinart or other brands like this because you know these brands make products for home and commercial kitchen use, therefore making them more of an expert on a product for kitchen use.

I personally believe that buying a brand just because its popular or has a new product in stock is not shopping smartly. A brand that has spent years studying and researching a particular product would know more about that particular product than a brand that produces a variety of different products because their focuses are split up evenly among all of the products they produce.

Generally, most people have said that Canon is good. I think so too, and I have a special liking for Olympus as well.
