Need to know which is the better of the 2 fairs to visit - The China International Furniture Fair, Shanghai (Sept 11 -14, 2006) or The 100th Canton Fair, Guangzhou Oct 15 - 30, 2006). I am keen on seeing new furniture designs, new finishes & possibly building a business relationship for furniture hardware.

The South is where business happens in China and prices are generally cheaper than in ShangHai.English is more widely spoken in SH but south is where the money is. Be prepared ----Chinese like to do business at the dinner table especially once they have you well lubricated, that way they get 2 see the inner you and will decide whether it's worth their while or not. Compliments and flattery come thick and fast served with a smile, before, during and after but they'll only do what serves them best. wo zhu ni haoyun

GuangZhou is where business happens ---- not that it doesn't in ShangHai -- but SH prices are higher! More chinese speak English in SH but the south of China is where the money is AND where the best oppertunities lie. Be prepared,--- Chinese businessmen like to do business at the dinner table usually after they've checked you out thoroughly and got you as drunk as possible into the bargain--- that way they learn about the inner you :)and whether or not they can make the best possible deal for them.Beware of compliments and flattery --- it's usually laid on thick before, after and during.
