Furniture Fairs, China |
|
Need to know which is the better of the 2 fairs to visit - The China International Furniture Fair, Shanghai (Sept 11 -14, 2006) or The 100th Canton Fair, Guangzhou Oct 15 - 30, 2006). I am keen on seeing new furniture designs, new finishes & possibly building a business relationship for furniture hardware.

More chinese speak English in SH but the south of China is where the money is AND where the best oppertunities lie. Be prepared,--- Chinese businessmen like to do business at the dinner table usually after they've checked you out thoroughly and got you as drunk as possible into the bargain--- that way they learn about the inner you:)and whether or not they can make the best possible deal for them.Beware of compliments and flattery --- it's usually laid on thick before, after and during. 6. michael666 (678) | 2 years ago | The South is where business happens in China and prices are generally cheaper than in ShangHai.English is more widely spoken in SH but south is where the money is. Be prepared ----Chinese like to do business at the dinner table especially once they have you well lubricated, that way they get 2 see the inner you and will decide whether it's worth their while or not. Compliments and flattery come thick and fast served with a smile, before, during and after but they'll only do what serves them best. wo zhu ni haoyun

| julie_boseverma (1) | 2 years ago | Thanks, michael666. Have you ever visited either of these fairs? From what I can gather the Canton Fair covers a large variety of products while the Shanghai one is more product specific - Furniture. Is it safe to say that the Shanghai one is best as a review of designs & technology available in China, while the Canton Fair for business?

michael666 (678) | 2 years ago | Your assessment is pretty accurate Julie though I haven't dealt in furniture here --- I left that behind me in Oz. Have benn living in Southern China for nearly 2 years now and have had the oppertunity to do some market research re import/export specifically to Oz.

michael666 (678) | 2 years ago | You're welcome Julie. It's not really tangible info BUT many people try to do business here and can't figure out why, when they thought everything went really well and everyone was soooo friendly, nothing really came together. Cultural understanding is actually just as important as the product
