Life is full of lessons which we couldnt even dream of composing. Below is a link to the story of Ronald Cotton (rapist) and Jennifer Thompson (victim). If you did not get the story on 60 minutes or through some other medium I would strongly suggest you clear your mind of any pre-judgemental thoughts you may have. Ensure that you really read the story before commenting here. This story is powerful and even I, a strong hater of rapist was led to take a strong lesson from this story. The justice system comes in for huge review. I dont even know where exactly to lead this discussion, so I leave it to you to place your comment on the story. If you can view that edition of 60 minutes it even makes it better. www.cbsnews.com/stories/.../60minutes/main4848039.shtml - Cached - Similar -

For some reasons, I can't open the link you shared. But my thoughts about being friends with your rapist? That may be a hard time to do. I can never imagine how it must have been for this Jennifer Thompson, and I think she took a lot of courage to do this. It is a very odd situation, considering the trauma she may have had. I wish I have the same courage in my life right now.

Is that so.... Oh well i just checked it myself and it says the page cannot be found. Thats funny. I'll place two links here. I hope one opens. After reading the story you will understand even more why she became friends with this man. I dont want to say too much. Here are the links. www.cbsnews.com/stories/.../60minutes/main4848039.shtml teamsuperforest.org/superforest/?p=5899 - I really hope these work.

Guess not. Oh bother. The story revealed though that the accussed was actually innocent and ended up serving time with the man who did the crime. Ronald Cotton was imprisoned for 11 years before he got inspiration from the O J Simpson case and asked his lawyer to request DNA. It was the DNA test which finally proved his innocence 11 yrs later even though the real rapist had confest to committing the crime. Ronald and Jennifer are now very good friends and have even written a book together "Picking Cotton".... Such a pity none of these links are working as there is so much more to learn from it. I wont try again but an online search will yield serveral results on the story.

You're right... forgiveness is something that I find very difficult to practice. Sharing stories like this can indeed open hearts. Will have to check on this story too. Thanks for the best response by the way.

Hi pbrockington. Sorry to hear of your bad experience. I am not sure you went to the link and checked out the story. The difference was that these persons were absolute strangers to each other. In your case there is no doubt that that rapist would find his way into my bad books and be banished from my friends list.

I must be the only person in an office without sound on her computer and I would have loved to have heard this and take part in th ensuing discussions.

Hi Cynthian . It was such a powerful to watch. I actually got to view it twice (thank God for repeat programs sometimes). It is such a powerful story. Im sorry you have no sound on your computer. If you follow the link though you will be able to read the entire story as it appeared on 60 minutes plus pictures of both persons.
