The Half Blood Prince falls short of excitement. | | Have you seen the 6th installment of the Harry Potter series? Well, I have and I was not as thrilled as I was in the first five films. Somehow I expected that because the book actually was not as exciting as far as the plot and characters are concerned. The Harry Potter plot pattern was different. There was no actual confrontation between Harry and Voldemort as in the past. The battle between good and evil was somehow downplayed. The minor characters do not come up as strong enough an adversary for Harry. The death of Dumbledore could have been an event to remember, in proportion to how great a wizard he had been. And Snape, as the half blood prince, could have been built up better than just a participant to an unbreakable vow. Yet, the growing up of the major characters and the audience's witnessing the cragginess of youth made the movie enjoyable to watch. The filmmakers also allowed a hi-tech spectacular treatment of the flying, the apparating, the flames, the speed, etc. That was cool. The music could have retained the original score which had been a HP trademark. By and large, I still love Harry Potter.

The death of the D is definitely a big issue. However, I did not agree with the director for cutting out the important climatic fighting scene at the end. That should have been included just to get some Harry Potter fans to go back and watch a second time.
Since that time is short, the director should have deleted the long train scenes - the spying on Malfroy, and also the Lav part. Ron did not have to get longer parts.
I was disappointed that this movie did not portray Hermione and Ron for whom they are supposed to be - Harry's sidekicks. They were practically useless in the film. At least Ginny got a chance to confront the Deatheaters, which is one of the few exciting parts of the film.

starlight70 (286) | 6 months ago | It's not Voldermont who murders the lead characters. It's the director. David Yates needs to re-write his scripts for the final movies and make no errors like this. My nephew slept in the cinema, and he is a fan!!! OMG.
