What is the one spice you cant live without?

As a cook, I've actually given this question a lot of thought. If I could only ever eat one spice for the rest of my life, it would have to be black pepper. If I had a second, it would be basil, but black pepper is the one I really can't live without. It goes on everything. I go through more black pepper in my kitchen at home than everything else combined. I like food really spicy, but I also like to be able to taste it. Sometimes when you use too much jalepeno or other peppers, I feel like it just burns my tongue, which is enjoyable, but I can't taste anything. With black pepper, I can make it as spicy as I want, but it doesn't mute the flavor.

I cant live without salt as my food will all be bland and boring. I think everything we eat requires some salt in it. Not too much, just to make it nice.
