Watch out when you are looking for a used car. Especially now, due to the economic downturn, people prefer used cars over new cars. When you purchasing your used car through classified ads; private owner; or some used car lot; you have be extra careful on what they selling to you. It would be best if you can get a detailed history report from that particular car. Because you might buying a stolen car from a thief. The key factor is a "VIN number". This is an identification number assigned to a car. In order to sell a stolen car, car thief must clone the VIN. They can either punch out a VIN number, or through advance technology to print out a phony VIN. So, watch out what you are buying. If the police found a stolen car, and it was your newly purchased car. They are more likely to return the car to its rightful owner. Then you might losing money, and you won't get any compensation.

i don't prefer buying a second hand car. i know there's always a chance of it being stolen but if you buy a second hand car from an authorized dealer then the chances of it being stolen are very low because they do all the paper work as well. i think you should never buy a used car simply because if you are buying it you never know when it's engine may stop working.
