what an icon of the 1960's. i am too young to remember how he choked back tears when announcing that president john f kennedy was dead or the assasination of MLK or bobby kennedy or how he called the war in vietnam a 'stalemate'. the history he lived through and announced to the rest of the waiting world...amazing!

Hi Cher, I too was very young back then, however, I was "in love" with JFK and saw the assassination on the T.V.. I cried along with the whole nation. He was the one person that got me to watch and follow the news. I also remember Walter Cronkite announcing the news and getting teary eyed and reporting during the Vietnam war and how honest he was reveling his true feelings. We have truly lost a great man and a great reporter! AND THAT'S THEY WAY IT IS! R.I.P. Walter.

I wish those in the media now days were more like him. Dan Rather paled in comparison to him. Walter Kronkite ensured in so many ways a defining legacy that few can ever think to leave - those in the media or otherwise.
