What is Bull and Bear symbol in Stock market?

Hi all,
I am new to stock market and investment. Many times i heard in news channels that stock market is going through a bull run or it is going through bear phase. what this bull and bear got to do with stock market?

Hi sunstar, In a stock market there is either a bull run or a bear market. Bull run is when the markets are up, the stock prices are shooting upwards and the general mood is positive. And as you can guess the bear market is the opposite, when the sentiments are negative and the prices are falling. It may due to any reason, political unrest, rumors or a general economic down trend....Nowadays the markets are generally on a bull run...The prices have been going up on an average..
