| Should George be in yellow? | | | | Ok, who is to blame for George not bing in yellow? I know 5 seconds can go a lot of ways, but do you think Astana miscalculated, or do you think Garmin had a grudge? Or was it just good tactics for Garmin to make the same teams have to defend the jersey? What do you think? I like the idea of George in yellow and a lot of the guys back there were his old teammates, but it is always a bit weird to ask a pro not to race as hard as possible. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | I don't think Astana is to blame. They kinda held the gap hovering at 6:30 minutes for much of the lap. I think it was AG2R and Garmin that started to bring the tempo up to defend Nocentini's lead. And it kinda hurt too that the tempo went up a notch in the last kilometer during the lead-out to the finish line because HTC was trying to get some points back for Cavendish to get back the green jersey from Husholvd. If you think about it, that 5 second difference was lost in that final kilometer. It's kinda sad that George didn't get the yellow jersey. I think even Armstrong would admit that his longtime former teammate deserves the yellow. HTC should have dictated the tempo to defend George's lead when he was virtually the race leader during that breakaway. Cav should have been the bigger man and helped his teammate instead of worrying about the green. I'm still puzzled why they didn't go up front to slow down the tempo when their man is on a successful breakaway and has a big chance of getting the yellow jersey. | | | | | | | Troublegum (433)

| | Agreed, I think the best possible solution would have been for astana to have backed of and let the break have an extra minute buffer, but you can't fault them for not anticipating how the other teams were going to contend for the other points out on the road. | | | | | | | Business Opportunity Premium Italian Wine Selection Distribution Opportunities fastyourtr.com | add comment | | | |

| | Keeping the pace down just a little more in the peloton and letting George take the yellow jersey would have been really classy by the rest of the teams. I don't think it would have been any skin off anyone's nose in the long run to hold back a little. Everyone knew that the leaders were going to shuffle in the mountains the day after anyway. On the other hand it is a race after all and if your team isn't there to try and win or at least make the best showing possible they shouldn't be there. | | | | | | | Troublegum (433)

| | on second thought, the best solution would have been for George to ride 6 seconds faster and everything would be solved. | | | | Philbo (428)
