I already posted a discussion before about our high schoolers dropout rates increasing in the past couple of years. They just unappreciate the opportunity to have great environment to study. In comparison to other third countries, those children might not have the same opportunity as our children from states. Even though they want to go to school, there is might not one available for them. So, Don't you think that our children too spoiled? They should experience those sufferings to see the real world before their eyes.

Once I travelled to Yunnan, China for holiday. I spoke to the lady who controlled the horse I was riding. She was walking in front of me, and we chatted. Her two children were in school, a few hours walk away. They stayed in school. They had to bring the cooking pots and pans, and rice, vegetables to school. The older child would cook, and both siblings could enjoy a meal. The older child was just ten years old. They returned home for the weekend, having to walk the few hours home. I do not know whether schooling is free in China. I doubt so. Those kids are in very competitive environment. I can't imagine walking to school with all the rice, textbooks, and vegetables.

It's really a pity that these young guys don't cherish the chance of good education. It's true that in our country some chirldren even don't get any education just because of poorness. Of course since we are now carrying one child policy most family spend a lot of time and money to raise their child . Also you can see spoiled children everywhere. i'm a little worried about this situation.

I believe our children do not appreciate the free school system that we have but I also know that it is hard to learn lessons in life by learning through other's hardships. people tend to learn through their own, as parents all we can do is support them and send them to school and why not demand good grades and bug them to graduate. Sometimes this works and others not so much, but at least, if they drop off, or do not graduate, it will be on them, not on the parents.

I kind of agree, but anyone would do the samething given the opportunity to be in one of the most advanced countries and know no difference. In my world geography class my teacher showed us a video of the kids our age and they were all from different 3rd world countries, and to just see how much they wanted to go to school made all the girls in my class tear up. Just the video made me realise how gifted we are to be born in a country like this.

It depends, our children are only spoiled if you let them be. I mean seriously, there are times when we all hated and liked school, personally i hated school as it only played a very small part of my life. But i miss all the hanging out at breaks with our friends, and just having fun. But i agree they are spoiled, but only if the parents let them be.
