I got an assignment yesterday in my ethics class that asks us to find a news story that deals with an ethical issue. I have to discuss it in person with someone and online with people and write a paper about my experience. With that being said, I had no idea what I wanted to write about until I saw the news last night. A woman in my town rescued a 5 legged dog from being sold to a freakshow owner in Coney Island. She paid $4000 to keep the dog out of the freakshow and also paid for the dog to have surgery to remove the fifth leg. What do you think about the woman who rescued the dog? What do you think about the guy who runs the freakshow? Do you think these freakshows should be allowed to exploit animals, and sometimes people, with defects? How does animal rights come into play in this situation?

Your well-thought out responses would be very much appreciated since I have to write a short paper about this and turn it in on Monday. Thanks!

I saw this on the internet a few days ago. I thought it was said a dog be born that way. On top of that that someone wanted to use the dog as a freakshow to earn money. Four thousand dollars is a lot of money for a dog but I am glad someone is willing to take care of the sweet pup and give it a home it deserves.

I dont know about this incident but I will tell you that If someone I mean cameraman who make film or any show who get this dog and show it on the television then it doesn't matter. because It wont harm Dog. and Even Many human who has this kind of defect or problem in body shown on television like on discovery.

How do you feel about the rights of people and animals included in these shows? I'm sure the people who are shown on Discovery shows get some sort of compensation. But this dog was going to be sold to a freakshow in Coney Island. The man was going to use the dog to show to others and make money off the birth defect that this dog has. Is it morally right for people to do this? I feel like the dog in this situation would not be gaining anything from being in the freakshow. The owner might feed the dog but I don't feel like the owner would take it to the vet and have regular checkups on it like a caring owner would do.
