Swimming can cure asthma...do you really think so?  | |  Back in college, the first two years of PE class involves swimming lessons, I have a cousin who is asthmatic and who has had severe asthma attacks since she was in grade school until high school, however when she took up swimming lessons in college, her asthma attacks lessened and the more she swims, the lesser she had the attacks until now, I don't remember her having an attack again. That led me to believe that indeed swimming can heal asthma. However, lately I've heard swimming clinics would require students to get a health certification from their doctors to certify that they are healthy to do the activity. I heard asthmatics were not admitted. What do you think?

| | | | | | 1.  phildozer (149)  | 5 months ago |  I have lived with asthma for most of my life. it sucks,but what I found was that while i did still have asthma symptoms when I played sports in highschool, my attacks got less and less frequent, which I attributed to me being increasingly fit, and able to tolerate more intense activity. however, I found that when I didnt maintain the aerobic workouts as I had during my seasons, my asthma indeed became more potent. Perhaps its just because she was getting used to the workouts as I had, or, as it happens for many juvenile cases of asthma, she simply grew out of it, or maybe a combonation of both. I seriously doubt that excircising itself cured the asthma, but it may have conditioned her

I have a concern though because I come from a family of asthmatics, I'm just fortunate enough to be the exemption, but I guess my son has it. Everytime, he gets fever and we go to see the doctor, the diagnosis would usually turn out as upper respiratory infection but the doc has never told me that he has asthma. That's why as early as now, he is five, I'm encouraging him to get involve in sporty stuff, just enough though to condition him and not strain him. | |

Although, I think i have maybe one other cousin who has asthma in my family, so i wouldnt really know about how frequently its passed genetically | |
