I do not bite my finger when I'm thinking but sometimes I put my hand on my chin or play with my hair when I'm thinking. Biting your finger hurts. I have heard of people biting their nails but not their finger. I do not do that because it's unsanitary. Maybe you should bite a gum instead whenever you need to think.

It has become my bad habbit to bite my nails,,not my finger,, but sometimes my finger got bitten too.. While nothing to do or I was thinking seriously, automatically I will bite my nails. It happened since I'm in the 4th grade elementary (I was 11 years old). It's bad and it's so difficult to stop. I wanna have manicure and paint my nails but I can't since my nails too small and short.. But since I play piano then it's my advantage having short nails,,lol,,^^ maybe I'll just wear acrylic nails in special occasion..

Sometimes when I'm thinking I am unconsciously bite my fingernails. And I have other mannerism too while thinking and when I have something to decide, like rotating my pen, brushing my hair.

No, I do not bite my fingers. Instead I chew up my nails. And I do not even realise that I am chewing them up. Not only while thinking but I chew up my nails even I am under tension. This is a habit which I am trying to overcome because seeing me my son has also started doing the same. But I was really wondering how do you bite your thumb without getting hurt.

Do you really mean biting your thumb while thinking? No,I am not used to that.Generally people bite their nails while thinking and I am one of them. But I don't go to an extreme to bite until blood oozes out.How did you started biting your thumb? Will you stop it when feeling hurt or do you do it unconsciously until stopping to think?

Hi, I never bite my finger when I am thinking. But I have a terrible habit of biting my lower lip when I am thinking hard. I just cannot seem to get out of this habit of mine though my mom keeps telling me that my lower lip will become thick and not look good. I actually do it being unaware of what I am doing. This has been a habit for long and though I tell myself, I must stop it once and for all, I still can't seem to grow out of this habit. I do know a friend who bites her thumb while thinking just as you; her habit has been since many years and now that she is an adult she sometimes feels embarrassed when she does it in public but just like me, she cannot get out of her habit. Happy Mylotting!

Dear busky5, This topic makes me ponder, what is my gesture when I am thinking! I think when I was thinking, I do not realise what I do... perhaps my mind focusing on the issue with pictures playing in my mind... I think I will be staring at something but blankly! I do observed many people biting their nails when thinking. I think this habit has to be broken..for hygiene purpose and body language personality. How? I think it is quite difficult because this habit normally started at an early age, but no harm trying!
