A believable couple?

It is often pointed out that sitcoms like this have a fat, unattractive husband with a comparably hot wife. Not to say that looks are all that matters, but in real life it does come into the picture. So do you think that Carrie and Doug on The King of Queens are a realistic couple? On the show, they make some attempt to explain it away by always pointing out that he's fat and she's mean. Do you think it works that way?
