I love it when people say my name. When I was still in college, some of my colleagues used to call me by my surname. I feel that it seems to be so formal. When someone tells my name or use my name in calling me, it gives a sense of warm with me, a sense of closeness.Indeed, for me, it is the sweetest thing I can hear in the day, --my name. How about you? Do your prefer same thing?

I too prefer people calling me by my first name rather by my surname. There is a sense of informality and warmth when you are addressed by you first name. There are however some persons who insist calling me by my surname even when i tell them not to which does cause me a bit of irritation and i always tell them that it leaves me cold when they do so.I suspect that these people many a time completely forget my first name and thats why they address me by the surname.

My given name is a little difficult to pronounce, although simply spelled. I have two nicknames that I've had for years and generally that is how people outside of my dearest friends and family address me. Unless I'm at home, with family, or on the telephone I don't even turn my head to my given name - not even at work.

In Sundaneese tradition, call someone name with the add "Akang" or "Teteh" before the name (for someone older) is a polite one or call Bapak/Mr or Ibu/Mrs to the parents or someone oldest. I love if someone call me like that. Most of Indonesia people have a strata to call someone, not like the other country in Europe or America. For example : Sundaneese : Akang, Kang, Aa for the male older in the family or in social interaction, Teteh, Ceuceu for the olfer fenale in the family or in social interaction. Betawi : Abang for female or mpok for female Padang : Abang for male or Uni for female, etc.

i preferred my first time.. its so nice if people call me by name instead of my last night.. coz last name seems that im carrying the name of my whole family.. seems that i need to be as good as i can be coz i represent the whole family coz thats our last name... unlike calling by me first time.. i feel like this is me, i can do things what i want to be as people saw me as individual and not as a whole.
