Could You Live WithOut - Central Air? |
|
I've heard a lot of poeple talk about Air Conditioning and just wanted to know, could you live without it?
I don't have central air. Don't even have a window unit. I haven't had too many problems keeping my house at or around 80 degrees during the day so I never really turned it on. Once my furance went out and the central air unit wasn't compatable, I just never replaced the air unit. Never used it for 3 years so didn't see much need for spending the money just 'incase' I wanted to turn it on.
What about you? Could you live without it? Would you?

2. Agee_inc (364) | 4 months ago | I use to be able to. But then i movedto Florida from Kentucky. And man it was hot down there so hot I started using the AC and i have never turned back. It has gotten so bad for me, i can not sleep until the air has cooled the place off and if it starts getting hot i will wake up uncomfortable. 80 degrees would be just to much for me. But i guess if I had to i could. I wouldn't want to but i could if it was necessary.

rosepedal64 (1277) | 4 months ago | Hey Im from KY too but even so I still need my central air. The until torn up and we had to use an conditioner until it got fixed. I didn't want to go into another room because it was too warm. I think the central air units have really spoiled us and now we can't do without them. What part of KY are u from?

rosepedal64 (1277) | 4 months ago | Im in Grayson. Do you know where that is? If not it is close to the WV state line. We have been lucky so far and only had a few hot days. More rain then normal. Right it is pretty cool and I don;t have the air on yet,but Im sure that it won't take long for me to turn the unit on.

| 3. HeatherSK13 (3) | 4 months ago | I've owned my house for 7 years and haven't had central air. However, I do use the window A/C on hot days b/c I get a little cranky if I'm too hot. It works and it's better than nothing. Good luck!:)

kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | I do remember those days when it was hot and everyone was cranky, then we got a horse tank and we fill it full of water and cool off there.
Cheaper then a pool pass and a lot more fun with water fighte.

kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | I'm the same way. I run cold, but have very low blood pressure. Maybe that's connected. At anyrate - didn't have it in our home till I was 11 - then froze to death 1/2 the time. Now that i'm older I don't find a need for it. Just sitting here right now have to keep the windows closed because there is a cold breeze coming in - it's August! LOL

5. Irishfrndly65 (7306) | 4 months ago | I couldn't at this time, mainly because I live in a leaky old mobile home that would cook my son and I during the day. Now if I had an energy efficient, tightly sealed and insulated home it might very well be an option...yip...even in Texas. Not for my husband, but I might, I can do without a/c alot longer than he can.

|
|
kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | Okay that's understandable. I know there are major problems with insolation in mobile homes. I remember what used to be called inidan summers when I was younger, but out climate has changed since then. Now are summers are pretty mellow. Only about 2 weeks tops is it a bit much and by then kids are back in school so don't need to deal with cranky little bodies running around.
And careful Zid, I might need another cigarette! LOL

6. zoey7879 (1254) | 4 months ago | Before I became ill, I lived in plenty of dry and hot places with no A/C of any kind for many years. Now with the disorder that I've come down with, it's VERY important that my core body temperature remain stable and not rise up for a very long period of time, as well as keeping my skin dry of sweat. So I could live without it until 2.5 years ago. Without it... Im restricted to really being stuck in a room with two fans and am rather immobile.

kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | I'm sorry to hear that. I know when my mom was going through the changes in life, as most of us do, she had to have the a/c or there wasn't any chance of her being human that day.
I know this is different, but can kind of relate. The heat can knock you out.

7. zed_k4 (4286) | 4 months ago | I could definitely live without it, but I can't make do without a fan at home, LOL.. I used to think that air-con tends to make your skin dry and it does. Like in the office for long hours on stretch, that could happen.

kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | I am a bit cold blooded, warm to me isn't until it gets around 80. But regardless of the time of year a fan is a must, especially for sleeping. Must just be white noise that makes us more comfortable. I can stand about anything with a breeze and shade of course - LOL
| |
|
|
zed_k4 (4286) | 4 months ago | I appreciate the fanning, Alice.. ha.. Pinched your fan? Hmmmmp, you know what.. those like paper fan can be handy too. Sometimes I give up and just take the magazine and fan myself, LOL..
But the leaf will do..
kprofgames.. I know what you are talking about. The sounds coming from the fan can be pretty exhausting to listen to indirectly, ha.. so it's either the sound or me getting warm, LOL..

kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | Sad part about it, is I can't sleep without it, even in the cold months. Pile on those blankets - 0ops, I forgot, we still use those when it gets that damp cold.
Seriously, July/August is our hot/humid months and we're all sleeping in winter pajamas.

8. pyewacket (11557) | 4 months ago | I've lived in my apartment a really long time and there is no such thing as central air....to get heat in the winter it automatically comes up via radiators (and no way to regulate it so sometimes too warm)--as for summer...all I have is a fan which really doesn't do much except circulate hot air.......yuk----no wonder I hate summer. It would be just too expensive for me to have AC
| |
| |
|
|
kprofgames (1434) | 4 months ago | I hear you there. During the summer months the electric company 'prorates' us for those that have central air. It kind of burns me that I have to pay a higher rate for something I don't even have.

| 10. facefinder (9) | 4 months ago | I live in a small 1 bedroom cottage and I keep it cool w/3 window units and 3 ceiling fans. How I adore central air conditioning. I wish my place had it. My place has a swamp cooler and I won't use it. Even duringthe non humid months I won't use it. So, I can live w/o central air, but I can't live with a swamp cooler. FaceFinder
