Why do people rob homes?

The robbers penetrated my first line of defense. They were able to smooth their way in underneath my gate. The local government repaired the sidewalk and it left a gap wide enough for robbers to invite themselves in. Since I put all my dishware and cooking casseroles and utensils in an open cupboard at the back of the house, the robbers completely helped themselves with every piece of kitchen treasure I possessed. The fact that they are old does not matter. I had invested on the Corelle cups and stainless steel cookware. Even the personalized mugs had been taken. Why do people rob homes? I could have given them had they only asked.
