Hair_of_the_Dog (490) | 4 months ago | I am trying to remember the last time I meant December.
I am sure there must have been many occasions when I got the month wrong. I do recall going up to a young lady recently, whom I thought I recognised.
I said, "June, isn't it?"
She said, "No, it's August you silly old fool"
That's the closest I can get to December right now.:P

2. linamachina (250) | 1 week ago | Hi Jb, consider yourself stalked and picked for an old discussion to be "re-animated". I like the title and considering it was 4 months ago, I was not yet a mylot member and that it will be December soon, I thought it appropriate to see if this will invoke any thoughts about December. December is definitely a month for distractions....I guess I could go on about that, or perhaps say that distraction happens whenever I realize that I am in the month of December....

linamachina (250) | 1 week ago | I also just realized that this is posted in Environment interest so I must modify my response. December in various parts of the world is a harsh time for the environment. Bitterly cold at times makes it difficult for animals to find food. The landscape in the cold regions are bleak and with a stark beauty. Winter solstice begins....

3. cloudwatcher (3334) | 1 week ago | Thanks linamachina for bringing it to light.
December + environment= bushfire danger.
In parts of Australia the bushfire warning has gone off the scale and they now have a new rating: catastrophic.

jb78000 (1707) | 1 week ago | i think you've said something about this before - bush fires are incredibly destructive and i was shocked when you said that some of them are certainly started deliberately. that is an incredibly stupid thing for people to do just because they are bored. so does this new rating mean that they are expected to be worse than last year?

linamachina (250) | 1 week ago | Hi Cloudwatcher, I just read Jb's comment and I had never really given much thought to bushfires in Austrailia. I am going to look them up. Do you encounter them frequently in December?

cloudwatcher (3334) | 1 week ago | We experience bushfires anytime in the hot weather, with possibly December-February the worst. We have had several years of severe drought which has made the danger much higher, and the fires more catastrophic when they hit.
In the Victorian bushfires less than a year ago, firefighters had to relearn techniques. Fires have always rushed along the ground, but in those fires, giant fireballs travelled through the air for many kilometres, landing in a "safe" area with disastrous results. Two hundred people lost their lives, 2000 homes were destroyed with whole towns wiped out in the 595 fires. It is estimated that over one million animals died as the 1600 square miles burned.
Here is the add for two of my blogs on yuwie if you want to read about it. I'm sorry I don't know how to make it a link. (It is not a referral link. I wouldn't recommend the site now)

linamachina (250) | 1 week ago | Thanks cloudwatcher for the info. It sounds frighteningly tragic. I can't imagine the huge fireballs you wrote about. I am going to read your blogs now and come back.
