Help! I can't figure out how to put photos on Mylot!

I have a scanner and I want to put photo's on my profile page! I have a picture I want to use as amy avater! I don't understand any of this and I hope someone can help me! I'm pretty naive when it comes to putting new stuff on my computer! Help!
