How many of you are working in the area of your training? If you are an Engineer say a mechanical engineer- how many of you are doing hardcore mechanical engineering? Like wise how many of Bachelor of Science people are doing a job that could be called adding their 2 cents to the Scientific Wisdom of humankind?

Even without a cast system, those people who do have power will always make it clear to those who do not what their supportive roles in life should be.

Oh! that is really sad. I thought India was the place this would happen. So, it the same all over the world!?!Just like human nature is about the same looks like even the human destinies are about the same. Let's hope for the best.

I actually took Electronics but do nothing that pertains to it now..lol. The entry level pay would be much less. The company I work for apparently thought that I would be better in management so that is where I am. I'm ok with it but it is strange to have went to school for one thing and then ended up doing something very different. I did do some troubleshooting on an inventory system they had for a while.

Yes..I'm ok with it. The vice president of my company says I have a "knack" for people. I continued troubleshooting until I trained someone else but he said he thought my greatest talent would come out on the floor with others. This comes from a very intelligent man that has been doing his job for a long time. The pay increase swayed me and the classes they paid me to go to was something different too. I actually got to go to Japan once to represent my department. I would have never got to do that troubleshooting that system. I think that sometimes we travel down one road thinking it is the only way and then wow..there is another option. I feel like I am opening myself up to broader horizons too. This way I have an Electronics degree and some experience plus classes in business management and experience.

Well, it looked strange, but were you OK with the idea that you are in the management? It did not pain you that you couldn't do much in Electronics. I ask this question because we generally choose our area of study in line with our tastes- I mean only then you will be able to perform at your best. And then you do a job in which you use your training and knowledge. For instance, my area of study was Electronic Engineering. The first job I applied for happened to be a sales job. Not that I liked to apply. It so happened that one of my study mates was referred to this job by his professor. He was scared to attend interview alone. He took me along. I told that friend, it is possible I will land the job and you wont. My friend said it was OK with him. We both took the small aptitude test that tested our knowledge. Since my score was 13/15, the Manager interviewed me first. As expected my interview went of well. I landed the job even after explicitly mentioning in choice of work column in the resume, and again in the interview that my preference was for R&D! I joined the job and attended duties for 5 days after which I left the job for another, where I hoped to get an R&D job. But that didn't happen.

i'm doing the job of being trained. i have been trained in a teachers university and now i am a teacher. there are many people who are not doing jobs of their training. some of my former classmates are doing jobs which have nothing to do with education. but i don't think it's sort of waste for they have developed their ability from the training which is helpful to their present jobs.

What is important is they must feel comfortable with what is happening with their lives. Now, you and your classmates have been trained as teachers. Of course you would be teaching a subject in which you have graduated. So long as you are teaching and teaching was you were trained for it is fine. Your profession and qualification match.Suppose your Classmates though trained as teachers were really not interested in teaching but have trained as teachers, but then they have some other job which they truly enjoy doing, then again it is fine. Thanks for the response.

there are many people who are working and yet not practicing their profession or training. it is because of the scarcity of job opportunities so we take what is available to be able to pay the bills and earn a living. unless we are really very good, then we can be able to practice and contribute to the scientific wisdom of humankind, as you say it.

I understand the first concern would be to take home the bacon( avariation if you permit on " bring home the bacon". It is only after you have ctaered to this need that you can think of anything else. But what are your feelings, when you compromise like that?
