You're Sixteen |
| |
| If you're as old as I am, lol you probably remember a song that was popular in the early '60s called "You're Sixteen". The words, to be exact, were "You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine". This song was also featured in the movie "American Graffitti", if you saw it. Anyway, the song was sung by a singer named "Johnny Burnette", who along with his brother, "Dorsey Burnette", and friend "Paul Burlison" formed "The Rock'n'Roll Trio" in the early '50s. Johnny sang and played guitar, Dorsey played the bass, and Paul played lead guitar. He wasn't a very well known singer but he had a hit with the song "Dreamin'" in 1960. I bought this record not long afterwards. This is how I first heard of him. I was just 8 years old at the time and I never had seen a picture of Johnny. After hearing him sing this song, I was picturing a really good looking guy! I know you can't always go by the way a person sounds as to how they look, but when I bought the song "You're Sixteen" a few years later, the record had his picture with it and I wasn't wrong! He was cute! He also had a hit with the songs "Little Boy Sad", "Big, Big World", and "God, Country, & My Baby". He also wrote songs for singers such as Ricky Nelson and Hank Snow. Before Johnny became a singer, he was a boxer, winning the golden glove award one time. He also worked as a deck hand on the Mississippi River. Johnny Burnette died in 1964 at the age of 30 in a boating accident. I didn't mean to make this so long. There was just so much I wanted to say about him. How many of youall have ever heard of Johnny Burnette or these songs? He was also the father of "Rocky Burnette", who was a rockabilly singer in the 1980s. Dorsey Burnette was the father of singer "Billy Burnette". | | | | | |

| | Johnny Burnette - You're Sixteen You're Beautiful Ooh, you come out of a dream, Peaches and cream, Lips like strawberry wine, You're sixteen, You're beautiful and you're mine. You're all ribbons and curls, Oh, what a girl! Eyes that twinkle and shine, You're sixteen, You're beautiful and you're mine. You're my baby, you're my pet, We fell in love on the night we met. You touched my hand, my heart went "pop", And ooh, when we kissed we could not stop. You walked out of my dream, Into my arms, Now you're my angel divine, You're sixteen, You're beautiful and you're mine. You're my baby, you're my pet, We fell in love on the night we met, You touched my hand, my heart went pop, Ooh when we kissed we could not stop. You walked out of my dreams, and into my car, Now you're my angel divine, You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine. | | | |

| | If you were born in 1950, you're two years older than I am. You got the words exactly right to this song! I knew all of the words but I had so many other things I wanted to say about him and I didn't want to take up more space. Yes, I remember Ringo Starr singing this as well. I liked him a lot, too! He was one of my favorite Beatles. Thank you for responding. Kathy. | | | |

| | I listen to country music mostly these days but I still like the oldies, too. I listen to them on youtube and I also listen to internet radio. If you would like to check it out, the website is: www.pandora.com. It's Pandora Internet Radio. Another one of my mylot friends told me about it. You can type in any song or artist you want to hear you and it will pull it up. You and I are pretty close to the same age, I think, so I'm sure you grew up listening to the same songs I did. I also like music out of the '50s. Both of my sisters were teenagers then. Kathy. | | | |
