Are you ok with cutting down trees, in the name of developmental works?

There has been indiscriminate felling of trees in my City to make way for some Infrastructure development. I wanted to know if it is the same in other Cities of the world as well. What is the general opinion?
I personally am very hurt at cutting down the trees. It is so annoying!

Hi! I find this nearly a crime. But in our country we do have a regulation and according to that, instead of every chopped down tree the engineering company (or any organisation responsible for that action) must plant three new trees. This somehow helps to keep the balance. Don't You have anything similar in your country?

Yes. We do have such a rule. When we are cutting down thousands of fully grown trees which help us breathe fresh air, and compensating it with tiny plants which will take years to grow, where are we heading to, for the next 20 years or so? Instead, dont you think it is better to go ahead with developmental works without affecting the natural habitat of other living beings?
When I see the axe fall on a tree, my nerves tremble and blood rushes in. It is a kind of terrorism we do on those trees.
