NTSC TO PAL and vice versa

i am experiencing some trouble. i used to live in england and have a playstation console from there, however it does not appear to be compatible with the tvs here in canada. can anyone tell me how i can circumvent this problem, i have alot of downtime while i am here and have not had a chance to utilize it by playing with one of my favorite toys. i loathe to sell it as i am quite attached to it. does anyone have any ideas? it is not registering on the tv at all, is there some sort of device like a converter that i can buy to make it compatible?
