5 years ago, category 4 hurricane Charley rushed through the state of Florida at an amazing speed of 28 mph. I was far inland, near Orlando, but it moved so fast it was still a hurricane when it crossed my area, with sustained winds of 90-100 mph. A weak tornado, an EF0, passed within 100 feet of my house and knocked down 2 big oak trees. It was kind of scary at the time, but Category 1 hurricanes are nothing compared to the devastation Katrina left in New Orleans.
The damage done at our house included a destroyed shed, tons of green leaves and branches every where, power out for 7 days, and the loss of a refrigerator full of food. Looking back it was an inconvenient but kind of exciting experience for me.
I have been through 3+ tropical storms since then but no more hurricanes.

Have you ever been through a tropical storm, a hurricane, or just a tornado?

No I have never been thru any of these types of storms but my parents were moving to Florida from Massachuettes driving thru Charley while trying to get to their house in Winter Haven. I remember a phone call from my Mom - they had just arrived at their house and she was crying because there was damage to the house and she was so scared because places all around were demolished or completely gone. I felt so helpless and wished I could have been with them. My brothers were with them but I think she needed her daughter at the time to hold and tell her everything was going to be ok. Thank god today everything is. I love storms but not when they kill or destroy, then its just to much sometimes to deal with. Thanks for the reminder I have to call my parents and see if they know what today is.
