In India the head of the state is A Woman. She heads the executive. The Central Government controlled by a Woman Leader. The Lower House of the Parliament is chaired by a Woman. The current Parliament is represented by more woman than any other past Parliament. Still the Government or Political parties are not in a postion to reserve 1/3 seats for women. There is no special reservation for women in high level position.
In this context it is intersting to see this news item from Philippines.
Philippines President Gloria Arroya today signed the women's rights Bill. The law compels the Government to boost the number of women in high level position to allow 50-50 gender within 5 years. I think this is a welcome move. What is your opinion.
Is there any reservation for women in Philippine Parliament ( may be senate and Congress as in US)

The Philippines is a republican and democratic state, my friend. Even then and there the right of the woman and man here is equal not like in your country that right of the woman is limited.

Even the president did not sign any law about woman. There are existing laws that respect the right of the woman...if we browse all laws respecting woman's right is more than for the right of the man...since the constitution provides "no person shall be deprive of life, liberty or property without due process of law and no person shall denied the equal protection of the Law'.

Meaning women and men here in the Philippines, having equal protection not like in your country that have some restriction on women.

In my views about the Law...there is effect in a sense that the government here has no teeth to implements such laws. Politicians here is making only laws but never implemented...there are many great laws in our country but is not enforceability due some interest of the politicians...

Like the epira law which tackling the issue of high electricity bills here in our country. It is not being enforce because more politicians have investment on that particular entity.

The highest price of oil here. They cannot say you need to cut price because they have investment also in the particular business trade...

Whatever the laws is good or for betterment of the people in any country if those entity have the interest of the politicians the law is useless and use only as basis for showing to the public they have done good but not in particular aspect or sides of the country...

Have a great day!

I agree with the responder above, The Philippines is a republican and democratic state. and never was a Parliamentary, at least it was a decade ago before the EDSA Independence. well, that Law is very good and it happened to be that my Sister-in-Law was there to witness the signatory. hmm, how come, i thought the problems with women had been almost solved.. i guess this is the real thing..things that at least Gloria can do right for a changeglare
