I have several such ideas. One of them was to develop a logistics that would ensure that everybody had two square meals, and nothing ever went down the drain. This has not materialized and may never, but I felt quite a few hours planning it. The idea came because I learnt that price of eggs was going down because of excessive production, so the producers were throwing away the eggs to keep the prices stable, as otherwise the business would become non-feasible for them. I dont know whether it was true or not, but I heard a similar thing about bananas as well. I felt what a lot of waste. They could as well donate the stuff to Tuberculosis hospitals, and claim tax rebates or sell it to fodder manufacturer. But wasting food seemed horrible. Did u ever feel something like this?

Hi vandana!
Manufacturers throwing away foods just to keep the prices stable? That's the weirdest idea I've heard
. Surely they are wasting food.
As for the social activities, I think I would choose a feeding program. I'd gather all those foods that manufacturers would like to throw and give them to those who are starving in the streets.

Oh your topic is interesting vandana
. And though this is how reality is in this crazy world, we can still think of something to make things better for ourselves and others, and yes, by not asking help from the government.
To be honest, in my observation, non-government organizations are the ones doing more help for the poor people.

And Yugasini (fist post) has given the name of the village where such wastage occurred! Now at least u believe me. :-) Thanks for responding. And thanks for almost siding me :-) This BR is for accepting that we can have a way around manufacturers without going to government as suggested by the first post. And it is not because u r my good friend. :-) Have a nice day. :-)

hi vandana,
once again on the mylot, you are right but we have to intimate those persons about the the stuff is used for tuberculosis and we have to give guidence and some body will take care of that,in our near place Madanapalli some times Tomato are throwing on the roads with tractors due non availability of the minimum price, the rate of tomato s are less than the 0.50 paise per kg,some body has to take the responsibility not to waste the things and it should be utilized for poor or need or to the research centers, have a nice day

I dont understand why the government allows this. I mean they could have sought government's permission to convert all of it into sauce by giving existing sauce factories licence to procure more for a while, and then exported it! The thought makes me sick that people can be like this.

I admire the fact that you have the heart to care enough about feeding the hungry and trying to prevent food waste..I can't quote the exact figures, but I know that the percentage of food that is wasted or thrown out in America could feed whole nations of the third world..The world hunger topic is one that everyone seems to have an opinion on, but unfortunately can't really do anything about..There are some excellent programs in place that do a great job of feeding starving children and adults in foreign places, but what about the starving people right here at home? No one in America should ever go hungry but they do..I personally think we need to solve our own problems first, take care of our own first, then reach out to others..
