Difference in HTTPS and HTTP..?

Both are protocols use to display a webpage. Usually most secure content like payment transactions and other important stuffs are carried out in HTTPS protocol. HTTPS uses a secure socket layer for transmission. This layer tends to avoid eavesdropping from others and HTTP is not good to this. I think gmail uses HTTP only. I have seen only paypal and some like bank transactions are done through this HTTPS..

As far as i know. Https encrypts the information it sends so information can't be intersected (by hackers probably). And its costly to have a https connection

Hence it provides more security. All the major websites, mostly finance related websites uses SSL technology. You will see a padlock in the of your browser which ensures that website is secure and all the information will be encrypted.
