What do you do with your old anti virus software? |
|
Ok, I am going through all my stuff AGAIN trying to condense everything before I move again in October. Anyway, I have come across my mom's old trend micro anti virus software she was buying when she was alive. I run AVG on my computer & have no use for her software (plus the newest of her's is 2006). So this is why I'm asking what would you do? Would you just throw them out or give them to charity or what?

2. vsganesh87 (425) | 4 months ago | I always use FREE ANTIVIRUS . Presently i am using AVIRA FREE EDITION . This
antivirus is good and easy to use. We can also update virus definitions. After
installing this software, my PC is protected and has not succumbed to any threat.

| 3. lovelots (96) | 4 months ago | If it's a freeware, I'd probably give it to charity. But if it requires a certain subscription for me to able to use it, i'd throw it away. No sense in keeping it.

moonchild1au (840) | 4 months ago | It was a paid program that my mom bought but I have never ued it...maybe I will recycle the discs into some sort of craft...

|
|
| lovelots (96) | 4 months ago | if the subscription hasn't expired, probably you can use it. some antivirus company lets you upgrade to the latest version for free.
| |
|
|
moonchild1au (840) | 4 months ago | I'm pretty sure it has expired as it's a 2006 disc so 3 years out of date:(

4. mike197601 (2787) | 4 months ago | The software would be pretty out of date and if it is a paid programme I doubt if the company would still be doing the updates on it. Maybe you could check if there are any charities that could use the software but I haven't heard of any. If there isn't a charity maybe recycle the discs or just throw them away.

moonchild1au (840) | 4 months ago | This is true, I have never heard of a charity that would take old anti virus software...maybe I could turn the discs into some sort of craft.

5. amitavroy (3927) | 4 months ago | well there is nothing much that we can do when the program is old enough for you to not get updates. i mean if served you well through out its working time and so now it has to be disposed off. well there is this thing with the company that if you renew your subscription then they give you discount and that is what the old programme can fetch you. more than that i think it is not good to expect form the companies. what can they do with the old programme. even the cd will be of no use. but yes they can be recycled.

moonchild1au (840) | 4 months ago | This is so true....I have now mentioned in responses above that I am now thinking of recycling them into some sort of craft as I don't think I can just put them in my recycling bin...Thanks for your response:)

6. reyasmi (108) | 4 months ago | Hai,
I have around 5 antivirus programs in my PC as well as laptop. But I have not installed all of them. I am using only AVAST antivirus beacuse its reliable and free of cost. So about other antivirus programs... They are kept in PC for those who want other Antiviruses, that is those who dont want to install AVAST antivirus.
Regards, Reyas

7. lovedude (1614) | 4 months ago | Well.. I just simply forget about my previous antivirus. I know as you have paid you must be thinking to get it's advantage but 2006 was 3 years before and I doubt if there will be any update available by trend micro or not. it's better to keep CD with you just for remembrance otherwise it's of no use. as it's better to use updated antivirus to secure your system.

moonchild1au (840) | 4 months ago | that's true but if it's no use to me (which it isn't coz I use AVG) then I may as well get rid of them huh?
