National Fans... What Do You Think is He Worth It?  email this discussion to a friend?

Can the signing of pitcher Stephan Strasburg by the Washington Nationals fill the baseball stadium in Washington D.C., will it bring enough fans to fill the seats? This is the question that the owners should be asking themselves. Or did the owners and manager just want to add some “flair” to the ball team for publicity?

It’s doubtful that the $15.1 million, plus incentives, contract will ever be recovered by ticket sales. Maybe the owners had such deep pockets that they were determined just to make a deal and hit the headlines.

Stephen Strasburg is fresh out of San Diego State and hasn’t pitched since May of this year. Can he be ready to help the Nationals some time this season, or will he just ride the bench until next Spring? I guess that is a question that manager Mike Rizzo will have to answer.
